Job Summary
The Driver Education Trainer's responsibilities include preparing, planning, and delivering lessons to teach students the rules, signs, and regulations of driving in accordance with state statutes.. The instruction will also facilitate hands-on driving with students, teaching practical skills related to safe driving, giving constructive feedback to students, and communicating which of their abilities require further development.
Evening, weekend, and summer hours may be required.
Key Responsibilities

- Prepare and deliver lessons from provided curriculum.
- Teach a mix of in person classroom theory, monitor online student completion, and conduct behind the wheel training.
- Test students, to include a final written exam and driving test.
- Help students to develop confidence in their driving skills.
- Gain control of the vehicle during emergency situations.
- Calm students who are in distress.
- Document and report on students' progress.
- Report all accidents to the driving school.
- Keep accurate student attendance and performance records that are turned into the college promptly upon student completion of the course.
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Required and Preferred Qualifications
Requirements:
- Must be at least 21 years of age.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Valid operator’s license held in state of residence for two consecutive years.

Clean driving record
- For the prior five years, the instructor candidate must have no violation on record for which five or more points might be assessed. This includes probation or other situations in which no points were assessed for the violation.
- You must have no suspensions or revocations on record within the last five years, including no convictions for DWI or any related alcohol or drug offense in connection with motor vehicle use. DMV Title 247.
- Excellent verbal and written communication.
- Able to work during evenings and on weekends, as required.
- Patience and enthusiasm.
- Ability to remain calm under pressure.
- Ability to pass driving instructor's certification course, consisting of 36 hours classroom/online lecture, and 24 hours behind the wheel training.
