Health Sciences Research Specialist/Research Coordinator
Are you interested in helping to improve the healthcare of our United States Veterans through meaningful work in a collaborative environment? The Research Service for the Western North Carolina VA Health Care System is hiring full-time Research Coordinators with experience in supporting research clinical trials.
This position requires an individual who understands the principles of scientific investigation and clinical trials, is capable of in-depth understanding of the study protocol, and is able to make complex decisions independently. The candidate must possess strong scientific, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
Based on the assigned study, the Research Coordinator will provide operational support under the direction of the study’s Principal Investigator as well as the Program Specialist for Research & Development.
Key duties:
1. Provide daily operational support
2. Ensure compliance with study protocol, including informed consent, safety, and data security requirements
3. Support research quality control and safety efforts through proper documentation tracking and maintenance
4. Assist with the development of study materials, IRB and R&D documentation and preparing for audits
5. Support recruitment, screening, enrollment, consent, and follow-up of clinical trial participants according to study protocols, including: reviewing medical charts, conducting study visits, administering questionnaires, entering datapoints in a timely and accurate manner, preparing participant mailings, tracking study activities
6. Collect and ship biospecimen (if appropriate to study design)
7. Prepare reports, presentations, and data summaries
8. Manage team meetings including: arranging meetings, taking meeting notes, entering data, maintaining quality control of data, coordinating research mailings, and other research support duties
9. Assist with development and maintenance of databases and files
10. Assist with grant submissions, including preparing applications, conducting literature reviews, and other tasks as needed
Qualifications:
1. BA/BS or higher degree in a scientific- or health-related field required
2. 2-4 years of work experience in clinical or health services research required a. If BA/BS, 2-4 years of research-related experience required b. If higher degree, 1-2 years of research-related experience preferred
3. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate with a diverse group of researchers and staff
4. Experience with customer service, particularly by telephone and e-mail
5. Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
6. Solid problem-solving and critical thinking skills
7. Excellent time management skills
8. Ability to adapt to changing priorities and timelines
9. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
10. Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook required
11. Experience with Microsoft Access, Microsoft SharePoint, and Microsoft Teams preferred
12. Experience with using electronic medical record systems
13. Knowledge of research compliance regulations
14. Phlebotomy experience preferred
