Qualifications
Education: High School diploma required. Associate Degree or equivalent hours preferred.
Credentials: Drivers License and acceptable driving record.
Special Knowledge, Skill, or Ability: Must be able to operate computers; have a general knowledge of tax returns and how state and federal regulations pertain to financial aid. Must possess strong interpersonal, communication, organizational and problem solving skills.
Training or Experience Required: Prior experience in higher education and financial aid or business-type setting dealing with the public preferred.
Reports to: Director of Financial Aid
Performance Expectations: The incumbent/employee will need to (A) Be customer focused to resolve problems effectively; (B) Manage human resources and diversity while promoting productivity and efficiency; (C) Manage information and communications with staff and public effectively; (D) Be a team player with co-workers, subordinates, other managers, and community leaders to accomplish college objectives or goals.
Job Goal (Purpose of Position): Performs minor supervisory-level duties with work study employees. Assist the Director and Assistant Director with his/her duties; to inform students of available financial aid and assist them in applying for it; to verify applications, assist with reporting and with recruiting and other functions. Works with faculty and staff to ensure the college mission is accomplished effectively.
Contact with Others: An incumbent in this position has regular contact with other colleges/universities, area high schools and the public. Gathers and/or handles routine, simple information and responds to routine questions.
Essential Job Functions/Performance Responsibilities:
1. Assists in administering the operational policies and procedures mandated by college, state and federal regulations to improve on productivity and customer service of the office.
2. Assists the Director with the management of the financial aid programs. Assist students in person and on the phone with financial aid applications. Sends letters of correspondence to verify applications. Verifies information from tax returns and other financial documents. Inputs data into mainframe and P.C.
3. Assists with state and federal reporting.
4. Represents the college when necessary for recruiting and other functions. Drives to schools and other meetings.
5. Maintains expertise in area of specialty by attending necessary conferences/seminars and/or schools as required. Reads and keeps current on latest technologies and requirements in the area of specialty and in the division's programs.
6. Performs other duties as required.
Supervision exercised: An incumbent may supervise college work-study employees.
Physical/Mental Requirements and Working Conditions: Other than those physical/mental requirements included in the essential functions, employee must be able to communicate on the telephone, and in person.
