The Western Railway Museum is seeking a part-time Visitor Services Representative to join our railway team at our museum located in Suisun City, CA.
ABOUT THE ORGANIZATION :
Since 1946, the Western Railway Museum (WRM), in Suisun City / Solano County, California has preserved the regional heritage of electric railway transportation for present and future generations. A museum of interurban transit equipment, it holds one of the largest collections of Sacramento Northern Railway equipment and offers an array of family fun activities including over 50 historic railway cars on display, railway exhibits, the Museum Store and Gift Shop, cafe, and historic streetcar and interurban electric train rides. The museum is operated by the Bay Area Electric Railroad Association, Inc. (BAERA), a non-profit educational organization that was created to foster interest in streetcar, interurban, and mainline electric railroad operations, and to preserve these rapidly vanishing pieces of history.
Our museum is supported by a community of nearly 1,000 members, 100 volunteers, alongside revenue from ticket sales, museum store and cafe sales, and generous tax-deductible donations from organizations and individuals.
POSITION SUMMARY :
As the first line of contact with the public, the Visitor Services Representative plays a crucial role in representing our museum. This position requires greeting and welcoming all guests with a consistently positive, enthusiastic, and professional demeanor. The individual in this role serves as an ambassador for our organization, ensuring that every visitor's experience begins on a positive note.
GIFT SHOP / TICKET COUNTER
The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following :
- Welcome all guests, answer inquiries, provide relevant facts on the museums offerings and history.
- Check in all ticketed guests and process ticketing transactions for walk in guests.
- Re-stock shelves, counters, or tables with merchandise.
- Keep the showroom and Visitor Center clean and orderly.
- Set-up displays and arrange merchandise on counters or tables to promote sales.
- Stamp, mark, or tag prices and generate bar codes on merchandise.
- Accept payments and make change; wrap or bag merchandise for customers.
- Reconcile cash in register at the beginning end of each shift.
- Attend and participate in monthly staff meetings.
CAFE
Our newly remodeled café now features an updated menu designed to enhance our customers' experience. Our café typically operates with a single staff member, making it a unique and manageable setting. To ensure smooth operations and support our team effectively, there may be occasions when museum staff will be required to work in the café. This could be for a full shift or temporarily to provide breaks for other team members. In light of this, we have implemented a cross-training initiative where all employees receive training in café operations.

Candidates must possess a high school diploma or GED.
Must be 18 years of age or older.

SCHEDULE :
COMPENSATION : 17 per hour.
Anticipated Interview Dates : In-person interviews are anticipated to begin early February with a start date of mid-to late February 2025.
