This full-time role involves working and teaching in the Wang Innovation Center, the leading fabrication facility in independent schools. The position is dedicated to supporting and teaching in the Wang Innovation Center, managing equipment, troubleshooting and repairing machines, and coaching an after- school robotics team. This role provides a unique opportunity for hands-on experience in fabrication, engineering, and robotics while working with students, faculty, and external groups. Candidates with a background in STEM, engineering, or educational technology are encouraged to apply. Previous knowledge, training or education in a related field is a plus.
Expectations:
Provide support in the Wang Innovation Center for faculty, staff, students, and outside groups using the facilities. Lead or assist in teaching courses during the academic day and help on weekends as needed. Promote safe and responsible use of all machines. Participate in all aspects of a dynamic boarding school community.
Primary Responsibilities Include:
- Teach and assist in classes related to innovation, engineering, and fabrication.
- Manage daily operations, ensuring safe and effective use of equipment.
- Coach and mentor the robotics team in after-school sessions and competitions.
- Troubleshoot and repair lab equipment
- Support students, faculty, and external partners in using lab resources.
- Enforce safety protocols and best practices for lab users.
- Develop and document operational standards for lab equipment and training materials.
Secondary Responsibilities Include:
- Assist in maintaining and upgrading lab tools and software.
- Organize and oversee robotics competitions, events, and outreach activities.
- Provide weekend and after-hours support as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Physical Demands:
- Ability to stand for extended periods, move around the workspace, and perform hands-on tasks in a dynamic environment.
- Must be able to lift and carry objects up to 50 lbs. independently and work in a moderately noisy environment with tools and machinery in operation.
Requirements
Competencies and Skills:
- Proficiency in fabrication tools, machine maintenance, CAD software, and electronics.
- Ability to instruct students, develop curricula, enforce safety protocols, and coach robotics teams.
- Strong analytical skills, creative thinking, and troubleshooting abilities.
- Excellent interpersonal skills for working with students, faculty, and external partners.
- Effective lab management, event coordination, documentation, and ability to oversee multiple projects and responsibilities.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field, preferably Computer Science, Engineering, Graphic Design, Educational Technology, or Industrial Design.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong interpersonal and customer service skills.
- High level of proficiency in problem solving.
- Candidates must be a college graduate before August 1, 2025, have an interest in working with adolescents, and possess the skills and talents that would benefit a boarding school community.
