Western Reserve Academy is a private, coeducational boarding school located in Hudson, Ohio. Established in 1826, our scenic 190-acre campus offers a convenient setting between Akron and Cleveland. The WRA safety team is on duty twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week to maintain a secure environment for both students and faculty. We are seeking security officers to cover all shifts, including afternoon, weekend, and evening hours.
Position Summary:
The Security Officer role is responsible for ensuring the safety and security of individuals, equipment, and property throughout the campus.
Primary Responsibilities Include:· Conduct patrols of the campus, either on foot or by vehicle, to maintain the safety and security of individuals, buildings, and equipment.
- Inspect doors, windows, and gates to ensure they are secure.
- Lock and unlock campus buildings daily at scheduled times.
- Report any student rule violations to the Dean of Student Affairs and/or the Administrator on Duty (AOD).
- Document infractions in the shift reporting log.
- Offer to escort visitors, students, and staff as needed.
- Monitor for irregularities, such as fire hazards, leaking pipes, malfunctioning security doors, or other issues needing maintenance.
- Respond to fire alarm activations and assists fire department as needed.
- Support police when required.
- Conduct nightly checks on mechanical systems, as well as kitchen coolers and freezer equipment.
- Manage traffic and parking as needed.
- Prepare Shift Reports for each shift worked.
- Complete Incident Reports when necessary.
Secondary Responsibilities Include:· Special event set-up and coordination and other duties as assigned by immediate supervisor or his/her designated representatives.
Requirements
- Must have a High School Diploma or GED.
- Ability to understand, follow, and communicate both verbal and written instructions.
- Preference is given to candidates with current or retired military or law enforcement experience.
- Capable of interacting effectively with a diverse group of individuals, including stressful, dangerous, or emergency conditions.
- Must obtain (or already have) certification in First Aid, including CPR, AED and Blood Borne Pathogens.
Physical Demands:
In this role, the employee is frequently required to walk, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Standing for extended periods is also common. The employee must be able to regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move more than 50 pounds. Additionally, the employee regularly works near moving mechanical parts and is exposed to outdoor weather conditions.
