Description
Western Reserve Academy, one of the nation’s premier boarding schools, invites experienced, dynamic, and collaborative educators who are passionate about teaching Social Sciences. Candidates should have the ability to inspire students and colleagues and the willingness to participate fully in all that is associated with a vibrant boarding school community.
WRA strives to find the right balance of duties and responsibilities for each faculty member. Typical expectations include:
- Teach multiple Social Science courses, levels to be determined by individual strengths and the needs of the department.
- Participate in the student life program, including dormitory duty.
- Outside of the classroom, teachers will supervise co-curricular activities (e.g. varsity or sub-varsity teams, community service activities, clubs, publications, etc.).
- Serve as an academic advisor for a small group of students.
- Attend school and faculty gatherings.
- Serve on appropriate task forces.
Requirements
The ideal candidate possesses most or all of the following qualifications:
- Minimum of five years of experience teaching High School Social Science or History.
- Master’s degree in Social Science or History or a closely related field.
- Enthusiasm to engage and lead teen learners in and out of the classroom.
- Strong interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work well with a team and independently.
- Willingness and desire to travel with students internationally.
- High degree of cultural competence and demonstrated experience working with culturally diverse populations.
- Motivation to seek and provide cultural activities in and out of the classroom.
- Willingness to develop connections and collaborate with other WRA academic departments, university Social Science or History departments and/or industry leaders.
- Proficiency in using technology to enhance learning in the classroom.
- Evidence of ongoing professional development in Social Science and/or education.
- Training and competence in working with learners with diverse styles and needs.
- An ability to teach research methodology and an enthusiasm to oversee research projects.
- An ability to craft creative student-centered activities and assessments.
