The Personal Lines Underwriting Manager works closely with the Assistant Vice President Personal Lines Underwriting to ensure that the written premium, loss ratio and service objectives are being realized.
This position is responsible for the supervision of an assigned team costing of CSR’s, Underwriter Assistants, Underwriters, and Supervisor for an assigned territory. This may include a territory in Ohio or Indiana.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Responsible for coordinating and implementing underwriting objectives meet premium, loss ratio, and service standards for assigned territories.
- Develops and implements corrective measures when written premium, loss ratio, and service objectives are not being met.
- Provides training, guidance, leadership, coaching and consultation to Team members.
- Monitors underwriting decisions and processes to ensure the underwriting staff are adhering to established criteria.
- Assists direct reports with day-to-day activities and their work.
- Works closely with other departments such as Accounting, Claims, Business Operations, Information Technology, Marketing and Strategic Development to realize overall Personal Lines and corporate objectives.
- Monitors and evaluates competitive developments and recommends new or revised products and pricing to capitalize on opportunities.
- Participate in rate planning and rate development specific to state, territories, and lines of business.
- Work closely with Sales Territory Managers in meeting profitability and growth goals by building positive relationships.
- Travels to agencies to strengthen Company/Agency relationships.
- Special projects and committees as assigned.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Will supervise assigned team costing of CSR’s, Underwriter Assistants, Underwriters, and PL CSR Supervisor.
QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- College education preferred.
- 5 years Personal Lines underwriting experience.
- Knowledge of Personal Lines coverages and rating
- Participation in CPCU, ARM or CIC preferred.
- Prior supervisory experience preferred.
- Knowledge and experience with Excel, Word, Access, and Power Point
- Excellent negotiation and team building skills.
