What are the responsibilities and job description for the WMS Librarian/Media Specialist position at Western School Corporation?
The Middle School Librarian is responsible for fostering a love of reading, research, and learning in students while maintaining a well-organized and resourceful library environment. This role involves assisting students and faculty with research, book selection, and library usage, as well as collaborating with teachers to support curriculum and literacy development. The librarian will also serve as the primary point of contact for managing iPad-related issues and coordinate with the tech department to ensure seamless technology integration within the library.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Library Management & Operations:
o Oversee the day-to-day operations of the middle school library, including circulation, cataloging, and shelving of library materials.
o Ensure the library is a welcoming, safe, and well-organized space conducive to reading and learning.
o Maintain a diverse collection of books, digital resources, and multimedia materials that meet the educational and recreational needs of students and staff.
o Assist students and teachers in locating, selecting, and utilizing library resources for academic projects and personal enrichment.
2. Instruction & Support:
o Collaborate with teachers to design and implement library-based lessons that support the school’s curriculum.
o Provide individual or small group instruction on using library resources and digital tools for research
3. Technology Support:
o Serve as the primary point of contact for managing student iPad-related issues within the library.
o Assist students with troubleshooting and resolving minor technical issues with their iPads.
o Communicate and collaborate with the tech department to escalate and resolve complex tech issues, software updates, and device repairs.
o Assist with setting up and troubleshooting technology for library events, presentations, and digital learning activities
4. Administrative & Communication:
o Maintain records of library usage, circulation statistics, and inventory.
o Organize and promote library events, book fairs, and reading programs to engage students and encourage reading.
o Communicate with students and staff regarding library services and events.
o Participate in faculty meetings and professional development activities as required.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
- Previous experience working in a school library setting is highly desirable.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with students, staff, and the tech department.
- Passion for reading, learning, and supporting student success.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
- 189 Days. Salary and benefits as per Support Staff Policy.
SALARY:
- $14.36/hour
- 8 hours/day - 40 hours per week
EVALUATION:
- An evaluation will be done on the employee’s performance after the first thirty (30) days, then on an annual basis.
