Garden and Food Program Coordinator

Be a part of the solution in Western South Dakota! Western South Dakota Community Action helps low-income families to move forward with education, training and resources.

We are seeking a skilled gardener and planner to coordinate our gardening and food security outreach for our 14-county region. The position will work with Master Gardeners, Master Food Preservers and other experts in our target communities, to set up and manage training. Topics will include beginning and intermediate gardening, harvesting and food preservation, and cooking skills utilizing garden produce, commodities and other inputs to minimize expense and maximize nutrition for our families.

Primary Duties:

Coordinate with local gardeners and training sites for seasonal classes, including site selection and preparation, recruiting and supporting local trainers, marketing and organizing training materials for classes, and assessment of activities. This is for Rapid City and five rural sites.

Coordinate with local resources on food preparation and preservation classes, including identifying training materials, program needs, recruiting trainers and assessment.

Assist with reporting on program for grant funders and other partners. Overall assessment and recommendations for the following year.

Required Skills and Experience

Gardening experience, preferably in a school or community setting, at least two years.

Cooking/food preservation knowledge and experience

Demonstrated experience in program planning among multiple partners, with educational objectives, at least two years.

Demonstrated experience in outreach efforts with community partners, preferably including rural areas.

Prefer nonprofit experience

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $20.00 - $22.00 per hour

Expected hours: 20 – 30 per week
