Western States Lodging and Management is seeking a highly skilled and strategic Senior Compensation Specialist to join our growing team. In this influential role, you will lead the design, analysis, and implementation of compensation programs that directly support our mission to attract, retain, and reward top talent.
As a trusted advisor to HR and business leaders, you will help shape a compensation framework that promotes internal equity, market competitiveness, and alignment with organizational performance. Our Senior Compensation & Benefits Specialist reports directly to the Compensation & Benefits Manager. This position is in-person, Monday through Friday, from 8 am-5 pm. We are offering a competitive pay range of $ 77- 81k annually, depending on experience.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Program Design & Execution
- Develop and implement forward-thinking compensation strategies, including base pay, variable incentives, and equity programs, aligned with organizational goals.
- Design job architectures, salary bands, and pay-for-performance models to ensure clarity, consistency, and scalability.
- Evaluate the effectiveness of current programs and recommend strategic enhancements to support evolving business needs.
Market Intelligence & Benchmarking
- Conduct robust market analyses using compensation surveys and internal data to maintain competitive and equitable pay structures.
- Monitor trends and provide executive-ready insights to inform compensation decisions at all levels of the organization.
Education & Enablement
- Create and deliver training for HR partners and people leaders on compensation principles, policies, and best practices.
- Develop clear, accessible communication materials to promote understanding and transparency of compensation frameworks.
- Advise on salary negotiations, offer recommendations, and serve as a trusted subject matter expert across the organization.
Operational Excellence & Compliance
- Lead annual compensation cycles including merit reviews, promotions, and bonus processes.
- Ensure programs are compliant with federal, state, and local regulations, including FLSA and the Equal Pay Act.
- Maintain data integrity within HRIS and compensation systems to support accurate reporting and analytics.
Data-Driven Insight & Reporting
- Produce and present comprehensive analyses, dashboards, and KPIs to senior leadership.
- Offer strategic recommendations based on internal trends and external benchmarks to influence workforce planning and talent strategy.
Qualifications & Experience
Required:
- Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Finance, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- 5 years of progressive experience in compensation, with demonstrated success in program design, analytics, and strategic business support.
- Advanced proficiency in Excel and experience working with compensation management tools and HRIS platforms.
- Exceptional analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills, with the ability to present complex information with clarity and impact.
- Deep knowledge of compensation principles, compliance requirements, and market trends.
Preferred:
- Certified Compensation Professional (CCP) or Global Remuneration Professional (GRP) designation.
- Experience with executive compensation, equity-based programs, and global pay practices.
- Familiarity with tools such as Workday, SAP, or PayScale.
