POSITION OVERVIEW: We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Diesel Fleet Technician to join our maintenance team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining heavy-duty diesel trucks and fleet equipment. This position plays a key role in ensuring the reliability, safety, and performance of our fleet through quality maintenance and repair work.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Perform preventative maintenance, diagnostics, and repairs on diesel engines, transmissions, brakes, electrical systems, and other related components.
- Conduct DOT inspections and ensure all fleet vehicles are compliant with safety standards and regulations.
- Troubleshoot and repair mechanical and electrical issues using diagnostic tools and software.
- Maintain accurate maintenance records and documentation for each unit.
- Operate within company safety protocols and industry best practices.
- Respond to roadside service calls as needed.
- Collaborate with other technicians and departments to schedule and prioritize repairs.
- Stay updated on the latest diesel technology, tools, and manufacturer recommendations.
Requirements
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
1. High school diploma or GED; technical certification or associate degree in diesel technology preferred.
2. Minimum 3 years of hands-on experience as a diesel technician in a fleet environment.
3. Strong diagnostic and mechanical skills with the ability to work independently.
4. Proficiency with diagnostic software (e.g., Navistar NED, Cummins Insite, Detroit Diesel DiagnosticLink, etc.).
5. Valid driver’s license; CDL preferred but not required and minimum legal insurance coverage on a personal vehicle.
6. ASE certifications (T-Series or equivalent) a plus.
7. Ability to lift 50 lbs and perform physical duties in varying weather conditions.
8. Must be able to work flexible hours.
9. Employee is responsible for ensuring to have the needed equipment and technology to perform the essential job functions (i.e., cell phone, internet).

Employment at Western Technical College is contingent upon the successful completion of a background check. Additionally, candidates who receive a conditional offer of employment may be required to undergo a drug screening in compliance with college policies and applicable laws.
