POSITION OVERVIEW: This position demands a high degree of accuracy and timeliness. A staff accountant must be able to work independently to determine financial reporting accuracy for monthly financial reporting processes, federal and state regulation reporting, and annual independent audits. A strong understanding of the GAAP requirements and be able to properly apply them to daily processes completed by the accounting department.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Regularly audit student documentation in the student information system.
- Reconcile bank accounts in a timely manner. (monthly)
- Post and reconcile payroll entries. (bi-weekly)
- Review and post end-of-month journal entries. (Depreciation, accruals, etc.)
- Become knowledgeable of all industry-related regulations related to Agency Funding, Title IV refunds, and student stipends. Utilize and apply accounting knowledge and training to identify the proper treatment of funds and accounting entries.
- Reconcile all balance sheet accounts as assigned in a timely manner. (monthly)
- Review and analyze programmatic PNLs. (monthly)
- Review A/R Aging for past-due account balances. Conduct an account audit and take necessary action for prompt resolution including submission for the collection process. (weekly)
- Coordinate collection campaigns for past-due accounts of inactive WT Students.
- Clear Title IV stale-dated stipend checks according to Department of Ed regulations. (weekly)
- Independent reconciliation of all Petty Cash funds. (quarterly)
- Help the Controller with end-of-month closing, by transferring/posting data from the student information system to the accounting system.
- Ensure that all Charges, Scholarships, Title IV funds, and other adjustments are posted timely and correctly to student ledgers.
- Ensure that Student Accounts Representatives keep up with the collection of student payments on a weekly basis, submitting reports weekly to designated recipients.
- Ensure accurate daily reconciliation and timely submission of Student Accounts activity packets to the Accounting Clerk.
- Maintain and populate programmatic/departmental budget reports quarterly.
- Maintain and update fix assets list.
- Cross-train in various accounting department tasks.
- Maintain well-organized files and records.
- Participate in audits (TWC, Financial Aid, Annual, etc.) as needed.
- Cooperate with other departments when necessary to complete all assigned tasks.
- Perform other work-related assignments as needed.
- Trucking industry responsibilities and functions (IFTA filing, heavy highway tax filing, fixed asset records, A/R, A/P, balance sheet reconciliations, etc.)
Requirements
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 3 years of experience in bookkeeping or accounting in a corporate environment or a medium to large organization environment preferred.
- Demonstrated knowledge of balance sheet reconciliations, regulating agency reporting, and participation in annual audits.
- Travel between campuses or to other locations as required.
- Must be able to work flexible hours, with a minimum of two split shift workdays each week.
- Must have a valid driver’s license and minimum legal insurance coverage on a personal vehicle.
- To telework, the employee is responsible for ensuring to have the needed equipment and technology to perform the essential job functions (i.e., cell phone, internet).

- Must have a personal cell phone to be used with the MFA.
- Knowledge of the trucking industry is preferred.
- Ability and willingness to comply with school policies and procedures, and state and federal laws and regulations.
