Clinical Services
- Conduct comprehensive clinical assessments to evaluate mental health, substance use, and risk factors for violence among youth clients.
- Develop and implement individualized treatment plans focused on reducing violent behavior, addressing substance use, and promoting emotional and behavioral health.
- Provide direct therapeutic interventions, including individual, family, and group therapy, using evidence-based practices such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Motivational Interviewing (MI), and trauma-informed care.
- Deliver crisis intervention and stabilization services as needed, ensuring the safety and well-being of clients and their families.
- Collaborate with program staff and supervisor to integrate clinical services into the overall Youth Violence and Substance Abuse Program.
- Offer clinical guidance and supervision to other program staff as appropriate, fostering professional growth and adherence to ethical practices.
- Work closely with community stakeholders, schools, and juvenile justice agencies to develop and implement prevention and intervention strategies.
- Engage with families, schools, and community partners to educate and advocate for mental health and substance abuse resources for at-risk youth.
- Represent the program in community meetings and events, building partnerships and promoting awareness of youth violence and substance use issues.
- Ensure the program aligns with the goals and requirements of DBHDS and local community needs.
- Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation, including assessments, treatment plans, progress notes, and discharge summaries, in compliance with DBHDS and Virginia Board of Counseling regulations.
- Collect and report program data to monitor outcomes and ensure compliance with grant requirements, accreditation standards, and regulatory guidelines.
- Adhere to all ethical and legal standards set forth by the Virginia Board of Counseling and DBHDS.
Education and Licensure
- Master’s degree or higher in Counseling, Social Work, Psychology, or a related field.
- Active licensure in Virginia as a Licensed Mental Health Professional (LMHP) or eligible for licensure, including:
- Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC)
- Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW)
- Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT)
- Certification or additional training in substance abuse counseling, trauma-informed care, or violence prevention is preferred.
- At least 2 years of experience providing mental health services to youth, preferably with a focus on violence prevention, substance use treatment, or trauma.
- Demonstrated expertise in evidence-based practices such as CBT, MI, and family systems therapy.
- Strong understanding of the social determinants of violence and substance abuse and how they impact youth development.
- Ability to work effectively with diverse populations, including youth from underserved or at-risk communities.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
