What are the responsibilities and job description for the Temporary Environmental Health Technician position at Western Upper Peninsula Health Department?
Position monitors beach water quality to issue beach water advisories. Responsible for the sampling, surveying, and monitoring of public bathing beaches in Keweenaw, Houghton, and Baraga, Gogebic, and Ontonagon counties. This position will conduct sanitary surveys, collect beach water samples, set-up and read samples in the laboratory, communicate results, and work closely with partnering agencies.
Status: Temporary Part-time, Non-exempt
Approximately 12 weeks, beginning of June to end of August; approximately 25 hours per week: 5 to 6 hours per day Monday through Thursday, and 2 Hours Friday morning.
Location: Serves the Keweenaw, Houghton, Baraga, Gogebic, and Ontonagon regions from a base in Hancock. Travel is required.
Qualifications: Associates degree in environmental health, environmental engineering technology, environmental science, or equivalent combination of education, experience, and technical training in a field related to biology or public health. Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation is required.
Pay Grade: AFSCME pay grade 2
