About the Position
The English Department is currently teaching in-person classes and would require applicants to be available to teach in person.
The English Department is hiring instructors to teach in our First Year Writing program (ENG ). Instructors will teach 2-3 sections of ENG during our fall quarter. These Instructors will be responsible for designing and teaching classes grounded in our First Year Writing standard curriculum, responding to and evaluating student work, holding weekly office hours, and maintaining student records and grades.
The Department, the College, and the University value teaching and we expect you to be an exemplary teacher; to be current in your discipline; to engage students actively in their own learning, including discussion, writing, and analysis; and to maintain high standards regarding course content. We expect you to provide students with feedback on their course work and examinations, and to be available to students through regularly scheduled office hours. You will be expected to have your students evaluate your courses using the standard University evaluation forms and to make those evaluations available to the department chair and faculty for annual review.
Required Qualifications
- Graduate of WWU's MA / MFA program or similar Master's program, with experience teaching at least 3 sections of ENG (or equivalent instructional experience).
- Commitment to teaching the 1st Year Writing Program's standard curriculum ()
- Evidence of a "commitment to teaching excellence," which can be demonstrated by original / revised assignments, articulation of teaching practices, and / or student evaluations and subsequent pedagogical responses
- Demonstrated commitment to cultivating learning environments that are equitable and inclusive of students with diverse social identities and backgrounds

Salary
per Credit, commensurate with experience and qualifications (MA at the lower end of the range and MFA at the upper end of the range)
