About the Position
The WSS Program Coordinator provides direct support to foster care and unaccompanied homeless youth participating in the Western Success Scholars (WSS) program. The WSS Program Coordinator is part of a team that focuses on providing support to students as they journey through their academic, personal, and career goals.
General responsibilities include assisting students with their transition to the university, overseeing quarterly WSS community engagement / community building activities and events, and connecting students with resources at the university and with other local, regional, state and federal resources.
This is a full-time, permanent position. Some duties may require evening or weekend hours.
Position Duties and Responsibilities
50% - Programming and Community Building
- In consultation with the WSS Program Manager and in collaboration with the Western Success Scholars student team leaders, plan and implement educational and community building events to include developing a quarterly calendar of events and workshops for Western Success Scholars and hosting community-wide awareness events during Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week and National Foster Care Month.
- Track budget expenditures to ensure programs / events stay within budget allocations.
- Oversee logistical needs for programs / events. Examples include purchasing supplies, establishing speaker contracts, making room reservations, ordering catering, setting up event travel, arranging for guest parking, and communication with attendees.
- Create social media and email campaigns to engage students.
- Work collaboratively with on and off community support staff to support students' attainment of basic needs, services, and academic goals.
- Develop creative solutions to enhance student engagement.
- Be a welcoming presence for all Western Success Scholars and prospective students seeking information or assistance.
25% - Under supervision of the Program Manager, implement a mentoring / coaching relationship with assigned scholars to create a community of care and support.
20% - Student Personnel Management
