ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Cleans assigned areas as necessary utilizing approved methods of cleaning such surfaces as carpet, tile, glass, slate and wood; ensures that all cleaning equipment is properly maintained at all times.
- Maintains floor surface areas by vacuuming and shampooing carpets, dry mopping, wet mopping, stripping wax, waxing, disinfecting and otherwise caring for hard surfaced floors.
- Maintains wall surface areas by dusting, washing and polishing as necessary.
- Cleans building furniture such as tables, chairs, desks, cabinets and bookcases.
- Cleans glass surfaces as required such as interior and exterior windows, door glass and mirrors.
- Cleans and disinfects rest rooms including sinks, urinals and toilets; ensures that all paper dispensers are filled as needed.
- Cleans items such as doors, chalkboards, drinking fountains, lighting fixtures, window sills, empties wastepaper baskets and ashtrays.
- Maintains entryways up to approximately fifteen feet from the doorway by sweeping up debris and shoveling snow as necessary; applies snow melt product as necessary in this area.
- Assures that proper use is made of College facilities by the public and that personnel using facilities having special use requirements adhere to the requirements.
- Assists in preparing any College facility for a special event; checks bulletin boards regularly for upcoming events involving WWCC facilities. Checks 25Live event sheets along with bulletin boards regularly for upcoming events involving WWCC facilities.
- Assures that assigned equipment is properly functioning; reports problems to the appropriate personnel.
- Maintains a willingness to assist other members of the custodial staff when workloads necessitate same.
- Ensures that all doors and windows are properly secured where feasible upon termination of the work shift.
- Completes and makes certain that time sheets accurately reflect time worked during the month.
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Wears approved and appropriate clothing when on duty.
- Serves on call as deemed necessary based on institutional needs, particularly as it relates to vacation and other leaves.
- Maintains safe working conditions and practices at all times.
- Safeguards institutional physical resources by caring properly for assigned assets and by prohibiting unauthorized use.
- Maintains an inventory of all assigned equipment, keeping proper records as necessary.
- Participates in in service training programs as appropriate.
- Performs other related duties as required.

Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, and ability to adjust focus.

Minimum Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Knowledge of:
- Principles and practices in general custodial operations
- Custodial equipment and repair procedures
- MSDS sheets
- Proper lifting techniques
- Mixing chemicals properly
Ability to:
- Understand materials, equipment operations, supplies and applications pertinent to housekeeping tasks
- Operate general equipment used in custodial operations
- Communicate effectively verbally and in writing
- Operate a PC and related software
- Maintain effective working relationships with other people
- Mix chemicals according to instructions and safety precautions
- Manage time, work schedules to meet deadlines
- Pass a pre-employment background check
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
Any combination of education and experience that demonstrates possession of the requisite knowledge, skill and abilities. A typical way to obtain these would be:
One (1) or Two (2) years of experience as a custodian, preferably in a large, public organization
