Description
The Westfield Area YMCA is looking for a Full-Time Assistant Teacher to join our Early Learning team in the Infant Room! Candidates must be energetic and highly motivated with strong communication skills.
The Assistant Teacher works together with the Head Teacher while implementing planned activities and curriculum to promote youth development, social responsibility and healthy living. The ideal candidate is reliable, flexible with their schedule, has experience working with infants and has a genuine interest in teaching/education.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Assisting Teacher with daily classroom activities
Ability to follow instructions and provide support
Aiding in preparing materials for lessons
Supervising and interacting with children
Creating a nurturing and warm environment
Schedule: Monday - Friday 8:00am - 5:00pm
Pay: Commensurate with education and experience

Requirements
- Must possess a CDA, and/or an Associate Degree in Early Childhood; OR High School diploma and 2 years classroom experience as an aide or other suitable experience with children in a licensed center
- Must enroll, at your expense, and complete a CDA program within the first year of employment or be currently enrolled in college with min 12 credits in EC education or approved related field and be enrolled as a student while employed until receipt of degree. If the incumbent possesses only a HS Diploma, must be at least 18 years of age
- Must have the ability to take charge of a group of children, and come up with activities/games at a moments notice, as needed
- Must possess, maintain and renew CPR for the Professional Rescuer, EPI, Asthma and First Aid within 90 days of hire. (training done on-site)
- Must have the stamina and physical flexibility (walking, sitting, standing, bending, running, stretching, reaching) to participate in children's activities and communicate with children face-to-face.
