We are currently seeking Lead Counselors for our summer camp programs! The Lead Counselor serves as a seasonal employee of the Westfield Area Y summer camp staff team. A Lead Counselor plays an integral role in the execution of the daily and weekly schedule of activities for children between the ages of 3-15.
Our camp programs feature a variety of traditional, sports, S.T.E.A.M. (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Mathematics), and teen camps. You can visit our website at https://www.westfieldynj.org/programs/camp for more information about the camps we offer.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Supervise and engage with groups of children in a fun but professional manner
- Plan, organize and lead daily camp activities
- Create a positive experience for all campers
- Maintain a safe environment
- Maintain the appropriate staff to camper ratio
- Safety of all campers at all times
- Responsible for the maintenance of equipment/supplies, cleanliness of camp site
Requirements
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- Must be energetic, fun and enjoy working with kids
- Must represent the YMCA’s core values of caring, honesty, responsibility and respect
- Experience working with children is preferred
As a summer camp counselor, you must be able to work the FULL duration of time for the camp that you are hired to work. No vacations are granted during summer employment, including pre-camp trainings. Based on your availability, you may be hired as a sub and scheduled when needed. Due to state requirements, there will be mandatory staff trainings in early June which all staff are required to attend.
