Westfield Public Schools is seeking qualified applicants for a LONG TERM SUB: SOCIAL STUDIES TEACHER - WESTFIELD TECHNICAL ACADEMY & WESTFIELD VIRUTAL PROGRAM. The position will be from April 28 - June 18, 2025.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Teach courses in Social Studies to secondary students, utilizing course of study adopted by the Westfield School Department, and appropriate curriculum publications as guidelines in teaching individual course content.
- Instruct pupils in citizenship and basic subject matter specified in state law and administrative regulations and procedures of the school district.
- Develop lesson plans and appropriate instructional aides.
- Provide individual and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of pupils with varying intellectual abilities, attitudes, and cultural backgrounds.
- Establish and maintain standards of pupil behavior needed to provide an orderly, productive classroom environment.
- Evaluate each pupil's progress in social studies knowledge and skills.
- Identify pupil needs, and cooperate with other professional staff members in assessing and helping pupils with attitude, and learning problems.
- Supervise pupils in out-of-classroom activities during the assigned work day.
- Participate in curriculum and other developmental programs.
- Work cooperatively with all aspects of the school administrative team/faculty and citizens to insure the highest quality of educational programs.
- Maintain professional competence through in-service programs.
- Select and requisition books and instructional aids, and maintain required inventory records; may request resource speakers and field trips.
- Participate in faculty committees and sponsorship of pupil activities.
- Communicate with parents and school counselors to discuss pupil progress.
- Perform any other duties that may be assigned by the building principal or the Superintendent of Schools.
