What are the responsibilities and job description for the SUBSTITUTE NURSES position at Westfield Public Schools?
JOB SUMMARY:
To fulfill the role of School Nurse during his/her absence and may include, but is not limited to, the following responsibilities:
- Perform treatments and administer daily and PRN medications per medical orders.
- Maintain up-to-date health records.
- Assume responsibility for informing faculty and staff of those students with special health problems, as needed.
- Interpret the health status of a pupil to him/her, the parents, and school personnel without breaching confidentiality.
- Observe students on a regular basis to determine health needs.
- Authorize the exclusion and/or re-admission of a student with an infectious disease.
- Administer first aid in accordance with established first aid procedures.
- Serve as a health consultant and resource person for the classroom teacher conducting health-related classes when requested as well as teacher health classes.
- Advise on modification of the education program to meet health needs of the individual student through the Chapter 766 process.
- Assume authority, in the absence of a physician, for the care of a student or staff member who has suffered injury or emergency illness.
