Summary of the Role
The GGW will identify, define and develop funding to support existing and planned program activities as well as lead the development, writing, and submission of grant proposals to federal, state and local funding agencies.
The position is also responsible for collecting, analyzing, and reporting data on the performance of program activities that are funded by federal, state, and local government agencies.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Prepares proposals by conducting research, gathering internal and external data to support grants requests, writing drafts and obtaining approvals.
- Coordinates and follows-up on the progress of submitted proposals.
- Identifies funding opportunities that meet the needs of the organization.
- Ensures that proposal deadlines are set and followed by determining priorities and target dates for information gathering, drafting, editing, revising and submitting proposals.
- Serves as the liaison to all funding agencies and organizations.
- Circulate summaries of funding opportunities to executive program staff, fiscal and data staff to ensure decisions are made and projects move forward in a timely manner to meet proposal deadlines.
- Revise, edit and proofread proposal materials prepared by other staff.
- Participate in regular inter-departmental meetings, senior leadership, program, finance and data meetings to learn and stay abreast of what is happening organizationally.
- Maintain relationships with current and potential government funders by drafting reports, and other written materials and by participating in meetings and/or phone conversations with funders.
- Stay abreast of philanthropic trends and government grantmaking priorities of current potential Westhab funders.
THE IDEAL CANDIDATE:
- Bachelor’s Degree; Master’s degree preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience as grant writer in social services or other government-funded organization.
- Motivated self-starter who also enjoys collaboration.
- Highly organized, able to write high volume of proposals and make frequent deadlines.
- A strong writer who can tailor proposals to specific funders and use both storytelling and data.
- Track record of securing new funding opportunities.
- People skills to build relationships with funders and program staff.
