SUMMARY
This is an entry level Chemist involved in project work and routine sample testing during and post production. Up to one year of experience is required.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
May include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Researches, analyzes, synthesizes, and experiments on substances, for such purposes as product and process development and application, quantitative and qualitative analysis, statistical analysis, process troubleshooting and improvement of analytical methodologies.
- Carries out basic procedures and experiments according to protocol and standard operating procedures in accordance with all quality and regulatory requirements. May utilize new instrumentation and equipment, and develop procedures and methods for solution of technical problems.
- Safely handles regulated materials, potential biohazard matrices, and toxic chemicals according to company procedures and policies as required by the studies performed.
- Performs complex data evaluations, reviews the work of others, and writes complex technical reports and standard operating procedures and can make technical presentations.
- Develops analytical standards and specifications for processes, facilities, products, and testing.
- May provide support for applications and perform maintenance on analytical instruments in some locations.
- Is proficient in the assigned area and can work routine quality control jobs when required to cover staffing vacancies.
- May also provide direction, training and coaching to Lab Technicians or others in the department.
- Communicates routinely with supervision, operations, shipping, supply chain and peers to develop good working relationships and provides timely technical information.
- Actively participates in team efforts and works with a variety of different personalities while successfully accomplishing assigned goals and initiatives. Volunteers for new work assignments.
- Contributes to the process of problem solving and utilizes logic when faced with difficult situations and seeks advice of others to better understand the big picture.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry or related technical science field degree or Associate’s degree in laboratory technology, chemistry, science, statistics, environmental, etc. with related work experiences.
- Up to one year of experience and requires direct supervision and guidance in technical laboratory areas and productivity.
- Successful candidates must satisfy background screening, including motor vehicle record screening, drug testing & pre-employment physical requirements before starting work.
- A current, valid Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) card is required.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit; stand; walk; use hands to touch, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, or crouch. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate as normally based in an office. Some of the work may be required in the operating units which can require usage of required PPE including safety glasses, hearing protection, etc. May also result in exposure to outside elements and may require usage of stairs and elevators. Travel including air travel or auto travel may occasionally be required.
