As we continue to enhance our compliance framework and prepare for a major transition from AAIS to ISO filings in Q3 2025, we are seeking a Regulatory Compliance Manager OR Regulatory Counsel to take ownership of critical regulatory and compliance responsibilities. This is a new position, created to ensure that WAIC remains proactive in filings, regulatory notices, and compliance oversight - areas that have previously been split between senior leadership. The ideal candidate will bring a deep understanding of insurance compliance, regulatory filings, and policy forms. We are open to candidates with an insurance compliance background or those with a legal background (attorney or paralegal) who have expertise in regulatory matters.

What You’ll Do
- Manage form and rate compliance across all WAIC’s operating states, working with the CEO and CUO.
- Lead our transition from AAIS to ISO filings in 2025, including working with ISO, external actuaries, and regulators to file and track loss cost multipliers (LCMs).
- Ensure underwriting, billing, and cancellation notices comply with state-specific regulations (e.g., correct language on policy delivery, cancellation notices).
- Maintain all company compliance files, including:
- Licenses
- Forms filings, (including AAIS, ISO and company specific forms)
- Loss Cost and Loss Cost Multiplier (Rate) filings
- Regulatory complaint log
- Collaborate with leadership to draft and manage coverage change notices for insureds as we transition to ISO-based forms.
- Report directly to the CEO.
If you are a licensed attorney, this role can expand beyond the above to include:
- Regulatory affairs, including responding to DOI inquiries, complaints, and regulatory audits.
- Drafting and reviewing policy language and compliance-related legal documents.
- Managing state regulatory filings (form, rate, rule changes) and providing legal insight on compliance risks.
- Advising senior management on insurance law, regulatory trends, and potential legislative changes impacting WAIC.
Compliance Manager Track
- Paralegal and/or 5 years of insurance regulatory compliance experience, preferably with a carrier.
- Strong knowledge of policy filings, regulatory approvals, and rate/form filing processes.
- Experience with AAIS, ISO, and state-specific filing procedures is a big plus.
- Ability to organize and track multiple state filings, regulatory notices and other compliance files.
- JD (Juris Doctor) degree
- Active Bar Admission is preferred
- Experience in insurance regulatory law, DOI interactions, and compliance audits.
- Strong legal writing skills and ability to interpret insurance statutes and regulations.
- Prior work in commercial property and casualty insurance is preferred.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and relationship management abilities.
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including:
- Word (document creation, reporting, executive summaries)
- Excel (data analysis, formulas, charting)
- PowerPoint (presentation design for board and executive meetings)
- Outlook & Teams (email, scheduling, virtual collaboration).
- Desire to thrive in a collaborative, fast-paced environment.
Salary Range: $80,000-$160,000

- Hybrid Schedule: Three days per week in our Owings Mills office (mandatory in-office on Mondays and Thursdays; staff splits Tuesdays and Wednesdays in-office/WFH).
- Compressed Work Schedule (CWS) Option: Work an extra hour Monday-Thursday and get every other Friday off.
