What are the responsibilities and job description for the Fitness and Aquatic Coordinator position at Westminster-Canterbury of the Blue Ridge?
The Fitness and Aquatics Coordinator is responsible for assisting the Fitness and Wellness Manager in planning, programming, budgeting, and overall administration of the Fitness/Aquatics Center while maintaining a safe environment.
\n- Develop, schedule and instruct land-based exercise classes that meet the needs and abilities of residents. Classes are adapted to specific population including, but not limited to, Cardiovascular/Muscular flexibility conditioning exercise class utilizing exercise equipment (machines, mats, bands, hand weights), variations of seated and/or standing exercise classes
- Develop, schedule and instruct constructive and recreational aquatics activities and services that meet the needs and abilities of participants. Classes are adapted to specific population including, but not limited to, moderate intensity cardiovascular and muscular conditioning aquatic exercise class, with adaptation made for needs to specific populations, low intensity range of motion and water walking.
- Promote and communicate the Fitness/Aquatics Center programs to all residents throughout the organization using a variety of communication tools and respond to complaints and concerns graciously and pro-actively.
- Develop, implement, conduct and supervise and modify individual personalized exercise plans (land and aqua-based) for the varied physical/cognitive abilities of the WCBR population.
- Develop, schedule and instruct live-streaming exercise class events for residents as needed.
- Create protocols for individual exercise programs which include the Physician Consent form. Ensure all participants complete an orientation prior to any activity.
- Assist in designing and working with staff on individual exercise programs, monitor results and provide advice.
- Design creative and progressive Fitness and Aquatics exercise classes and monitor effectiveness, preparing and presenting recommendations to staff and residents as appropriate.
- Monitor the pool and it’s users for safety.
- Contribute to the care of the facility, including but not limited to: regular pool maintenance, cleaning exercise equipment, pool towels, etc.
- Experience in a fitness facility, leading classes or personal trainer.
- Excellent communications skills.
- Strong ability to work collaboratively with a diverse group of residents and associates.
- Available to work evenings and weekends as required.
- Senior Fitness Certification.
- Certified Personal Trainer.
- Certified Group Exercise Instructor.
- CPR and First aid certification.
- Associate's degree required.
- Bachelor's degree in exercise science or similar field preferred.
- Four years of relevant experience can be substituted for degree requirements.
