POSITION DESCRIPTION
TITLE: Activities Coordinator DEPARTMENT: Resident Relations
RESPONSIBLE TO: Director of Resident Services
JOB SUMMARY: Responsible for the leading daily activities of Shenandoah Valley Westminster Canterbury to include but not limited to: programming, assistance with planning, providing support and education for participants and families, provide accurate documentation for both state and federal regulations provide one on one activities as assigned and responsible for ensuring the safety and comfort of all residents.
REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, SKILLS, LICENSURE:
- High School Diploma or equivalent work experience required.
- Previous work experience preferred two (2) years involving organized group activities with a senior living audience
- Certification as an Activities Professional preferred but not required (NCCAP(AAC, ADC, ADPC) or MEPEP)
- Computer skills & knowledge of current technology.

- Employment and annual Tuberculosis testing as required by Virginia State Licensure.
- Must attend annually mandatory in-services required by the State Licensure and all other mandatory in-services and/or meeting required by other regulatory agencies and/or by Shenandoah Valley Westminster Canterbury.
- Follows and supports the policies and procedures established by
Shenandoah Valley Westminster Canterbury.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Insure implementation of Shenandoah Valley Westminster Canterbury activities program policies and procedures.
- Responsible for transporting residents to and from activities, encouraging and reminding residents of scheduled activities 30 minutes prior to the activity.
- Lead group/individual activities of the program.
- Monitor and document participation in each individual and group activity.
- Maintain accurate participant records in accordance with licensing standards and regulations.
- Participate in and complete documentation for Care Plans, Minimum Data Sets and Individual Service Plans.
- Attend and assist with group outings.
- Assist with the coordination of needed volunteers.
- Responsible for following policies and procedures relating to the safety of participants and staff. Oversees the safety of the residents.
- Advocate for safety and protection of all participants.
- Practice effective communication techniques with participants, families and co-workers.
- Respect participant rights (e.g. address participant by name, allow participant to make decisions, etc.)
- Participate in the development, implementation, and evaluation of individual and group activities.
- Keep equipment, supplies, and participant furniture clean.
- Keep environment clean. Report housekeeping and maintenance needs.
- Inform Director of Resident Services concerning psychosocial needs/approaches related to the residents or families.
- Report to Director of Resident Services changes in participant status, resident’s responses to programming, equipment and supply needs, repair/maintenance needs, safety hazards, unusual occurrences or observations, problems with completion of assignments or scheduling.
- Direct participant and family complaints to Director of Resident Services.
- Responsible for developing activity calendar monthly and submit to Director of Resident Services for review.
- Responsible for keeping activity storage areas organized.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT
- Must be able to use, operate and interpret information from equipment in work area.
LIFTING
- Must be able to bend, reach and lift patients with assistance to transport them to stretchers/wheelchairs.
- Heavy lifting required (over 50 pounds occasionally and 25 pounds repetitively from ground level to shoulder height)
- Must be able to push and maneuver carts/stretchers/space saver loaded with weights of 200 pounds.
SPEECH
- Must be able to verbally communicate in the English language directly and over the telephone and be understood.
RANGE OF MOTION
- Must have mobility for all parts of the body, walking, bending, lifting, and reaching above head and use of hands.
- Must be able to stand and/or mobilize by walking for majority of an 8-hour shift.
- Some tasks may require sitting for part of the workday.
- Must have manual dexterity, fine motor skills (typing, computer, etc.)
WORKING CONDITIONS
- Must be able to work under stress
- Must be able to work overtime (and some employees work rotation or call schedules.)
