JOB TITLE: DIETITIAN
DIVISION: Hospitality
DEPARTMENT: Nutrition Care
OCCUPATIONAL SUMMARY:
Under the guidance of the Nutrition Care Manager, the Dietitian is responsible for planning, developing and directing nutritional care activities for residents and clients, including those with complex medical and nutritional needs. The Dietitian supports our mission and coordinates nutritional care with other health care providers, the residents, the resident’s family and community. The Dietitian provides Nutrition Care services and clinical dietary counseling. Provides appropriate follow-up in accordance with resident’s and patient’s treatment goals. The Dietitian manages employees within a framework of teamwork and empowerment.
JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Assists in providing quality food and an enjoyable dining experience for residents, guests, and staff, eliminating food as an issue for Administration.
2. Assists in the administration of the Nutrition Care Protocols per Dining Services standards, as well as state and federal guidelines, assuring “inspection ready” status at all times.
3. Manages and supervises Dietary Aides on a regular basis.
4. Acts as member of the Nutrition Care Team for an agreed-upon number of days/hours each week.
5. In role as a member of the Nutrition Care Team, observes and directs staff, documents attendance, ensures policies and procedures are followed, addresses problems independently, coordinates ‘Showtime’ meetings and in-services for team as needed, conducts kitchen safety and sanitation audits as needed, participates in the Performance Improvement Program as assigned, assists in interview, hiring, and disciplinary processes, performs other duties as assigned.
6. Responsible for the supervision of the Nutrition Care Team in the Nutrition Care Manager’s absence. Must be able to make decisions independently regarding staffing and resident satisfaction issues. In the Nutrition Care Manager’s absence, this dietitian leads the nutrition care team.
7. Maintains excellent relations with clients and residents and close working relationships with dining service supervisors and other community departments.
8. Participates in Resident Care Committee meetings.
9. Completes assigned clinical nutrition documentation, resident care plans and all pertinent charting in medical records within a timely manner to maintain compliance.
10. Provides clinical dietary counseling to Home Health/Hospice clients on an ad hoc basis.
11. Provides clinical dietary counseling to Home Health/Hospice clients on an ad hoc basis.
12. Reviews and approves cycle modified menus for Health Care Center; develops modified spreadsheets, as requested.
13. Performs dietary counseling, as requested.
14. Embraces and demonstrates the philosophy of Westminster-Canterbury on the Chesapeake Bay and utilizes these as the foundation for the execution of their job description.
15. As requested, conducts nutrition education sessions and provides nutrition information for staff members and residents living in all areas of the community. Participates in wellness activities, as applicable in the community.
16. As requested, conducts nutrition education sessions for residents and staff, and provides nutrition information to individual residents. Participates in wellness activities, as applicable in the community.
17. Insures that competency in the position is maintained by participating in training programs, as required.
18. Enters MDS Data as needed.
19. Does not divulge Morrison Senior Living or Westminster-Canterbury on Chesapeake Bay policies, procedures and systems to unauthorized individuals.
20. Completes monthly report indicating documentation completed. Ability to communicate effectively in English. Possesses good communication skills, both oral and written, particularly with a senior population.
21. Possesses good interpersonal skills, demonstrates flexibility and patience, and demonstrates a high level of sensitivity and interest in people, particularly senior population.
22. Performs other duties, as assigned.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
1. Ability to lift minimum of 25 pounds.
2. Ability to stand on concrete floors and maneuver independently and safely around kitchen, office, and storage areas.
3. Sufficient manual dexterity to operate a fire extinguisher, manipulate kitchen equipment and operate other office equipment.
4. Must be able to assist in the evacuation of residents.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
1. Is subject to falls, burns from equipment, odors, etc. throughout the work day.
2. Performance of position may involve exposure to commercial cleaning products.
EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
1. Registered Dietitian with accreditation from the Commission for Dietetic Registration and the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.
2. ServSafe certified preferred. Must obtain certification within one year from acceptance of this position.
3. Must have leadership experience, Supervisory experience preferred.
