What are the responsibilities and job description for the Financial Planning Analyst position at Westminster-Canterbury on Chesapeake Bay?
Supports the designing, testing, implementation, and evaluation of automated and manual accounting systems, including assisting in the implementation of projects. Supports the analysis of results and variances, identifies trends and provides information to the Director of Financial Management to support month-end close and Audit as needed. Must understand standard financial statements to support the accurate building of reports to support the G/L team and review of existing reports. Will evaluate manual and automated financial accounting work processes, systems, and procedures for efficiency of workflow and conformance with generally accepted accounting principles and provide recommendations.
WHAT YOU WILL DO:
- Coordinate all activities related to the preparation and submission of audit materials.
- Act as a liaison between auditors and various departments to facilitate the audit process.
- Prepare and compile necessary financial statements, schedules, and reports for Auditor.
- Ensure all financial records and documents are organized, accurate, and ready for review by Auditors.
- Work closely with internal teams to gather required information and ensure deadlines are met.
- Maintain and update records in accordance with audit requirements.
- Communicate audit timelines and requirements to internal departments to ensure timely submission of necessary documents.
- Provide guidance to departments on proper documentation and compliance with audit standards.
- Assist in reviewing internal controls to ensure compliance with audit requirements and regulatory standards.
- Help identify areas for improvement in financial processes to ensure audit readiness year-round.
- Respond to auditor inquiries, providing necessary explanations and clarifications.
- Assist auditors with accessing requested data and ensuring the audit process runs smoothly.
- Recommend improvements to the audit preparation process based on audit feedback and experiences.
- Stay updated on changes in audit requirements and best practices.
- Participates in Process Improvement Projects throughout the fiscal year to eliminate waste.
- Identify process improvements and design alternatives for new financial accounting systems and improvements to existing systems.
- Supports special projects as assigned from initiation to closure, including outline objectives, scope, required resources, budget, timing, and deliverables.
- Track and report on project milestones and provide status reports.
- Confirm that user manuals and systems/code documentation is current and applicable.
- Evaluates internal controls and security for new and existing automated accounting applications. Evaluates all manual accounting processes for automation.
- Generate comprehensive and collaborative reports in a timely manner.
- All other duties as assigned.
WHAT YOU WILL NEED TO BE SUCCESSFUL:
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, business administration, or a related field.
- Two years of professional experience as an accountant, auditor, or analyst that included participation in the design of financial accounting systems and audit preparation.
- Excellent analytical skills.
- Strong critical thinking skills.
- Demonstrated expertise in Microsoft and Google applications.
- Ability to understand and develop advanced excel formulas to support more efficient processes in the Finance Department.
- Ability to build reports using Corporate Performance Management software
- Ability to effectively communicate in writing and verbally with executive management, leaders, staff, etc.
- CPA or Master’s Degree preferred
- Must handle multiple tasks simultaneously and react quickly under stringent time frames to meet fixed deadlines
- Demonstrated the ability to meet deadlines; work under limited supervision; and to handle various projects simultaneously.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- This function is generally performed in an Office environment. Performs some repetitive PC functions.
- Sedentary work: must be able to perform computer work for six to eight hours per day, either standing or sitting.
- Must be able to file and retrieve documents from filing cabinets and storage areas.
- Ability to lift, carry, and maneuver boxes/files weighing up 25 pounds.
- Must be able to work hours that extend beyond normal business hours depending on operational needs.
