What are the responsibilities and job description for the Resident Clinic Medical Assistant position at Westminster-Canterbury on Chesapeake Bay?
POSITION PURPOSE
Provides resident and employee healthcare services in a Clinic setting. Performs both clinical and administrative work, which may include, greeting patients and answering telephones to changing wound dressings and removing sutures. May also instruct patients about general care, including, recording vital signs, compiling patients’ medical histories and administering medications under direction of a supervising physician, and clinic nurse. Responsibilities also include scheduling appointments to billing and assisting patients completing medical forms, input and information management for Electronic Medical Records, and other duties as assigned.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
• Greets and escorts residents to examination rooms, insuring comfort.
• Obtains vitals, secures compliant and enters data into resident’s electronic medical record.
• Screen telephone calls for Physicians and Providers, and takes accurate clinical messages within the limit of knowledge and WCCB policy.
• Inspects and ensures all equipment in exam room is clean and properly set-up.
• Prepares all diagnostic reports for availability to physicians. Ensures they have been scanned or input in Electronic Medical Records system.
• Calls in prescriptions and refills to pharmacy as directed by the provider and documents in the medical record.
• Obtains insurance referrals authorizations and pre certifications.
• Relieves other Clinic Team members for scheduled or unscheduled breaks.
• Assists employees with PDP screening, Flu vaccinations and employee injuries.
• Assists patients and physicians in completing medical documentation.
SKILLS:
Ability to perform CPR and relief of an obstructed airway. Understanding coding
Ability to maintain calm and communicate in a calm and effective tone. Familiarity with Microsoft and Google applications.
Effective and professional communications skills. Data input skills
LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS:
Certified as a Medical Assistant in the state of Virginia.
Anticipate lifting 20-25 pounds, lifting up to 40-50 pounds may occasionally be required, depending on the type of care provided.
