The Coordinator of Employer Connections creates and maintains employer relationships that result in internship and graduate placement, career development opportunities, and corporate learning agreements. This position professionally represents the college to alumni, employers, and the community and maintains positive internal relationships with faculty, staff, and students. This position regularly collaborates with the Career Development Counselor and Coordinator in the internship process each semester. 

Requirements

Essential Functions:

Goal-oriented: Create and achieve strategic employer engagement goals

  • Develop and execute a strategic approach to employer engagement that increases student-employer interaction, creates quality internship and placement experiences, and increases employer’s recruitment of its staff to the college’s degree and certificate programs.
  • Troubleshoot and initiate communication to resolve issues that may arise between faculty sponsor, student and internship site supervisor.
  • Collaborate with student leaders, administrative offices and other campus constituents to further develop the scope of outreach and positive impact of the WC Internship Program.
  • Participate as a team member in the Student Success Center to develop and implement strategies that enable the center to reach its goals.

Data-informed: Use data and reports to identify new employers and grow industry presence on campus

  • Grow connections with specific industries, geographies, employers, and alumni based on data on students’ industry and geographic interests and market trends on an ongoing basis.
  • Gather and summarize career services and WC Internship Program evaluation data each semester
  • Collect job placement data of Westminster College graduates annually and collaborate with the Office of Institutional Advancement on maintaining updated information regarding Westminster alumni’s careers.
  • Work with the Director of Institutional Research and Assessment to develop an assessment plan for the internship program to meet the needs of the program, academic departments, and external accreditors.

Relationship development: Engage the Westminster College community, industry and career colleagues

  • Create opportunities and oversee event logistics for employers to engage with others on campus.
  • Develop strategies for pursuing connections based on alumni contacts and other relationships.
  • Maintain active role in professional associations to remain current with employer/college trends and establish/maintain relationships with recruiters.
  • Represent the Greg Richard Office of Advising & Career Development at admission/recruiting events, student orientation programs and community networking events.

Brand promotion: Create messaging, content and information that goes out to employers on behalf of Westminster College

  • Plan and coordinate regular recruitment and career development events .
  • Collaborate with the institutional marketing office to create and disseminate timely and relevant promotional information to target audiences.
  • Initiate contact and promote the college’s degree programs and certificates to employers.
  • Professionally represent the college in all external interactions 

Administrative: Create and achieve a well-organized office

  • Work collaboratively with the Greg Richard Office of Advising & Career Development staff to ensure goals of offering engaging, accessible and inclusive student/employer experiences.
  • Co-manage online career management platforms with Career Development Counselor and Coordinator – Handshake, What Can I Do With This Major?, NACE. 
  • Manage student data each semester, process pending members, communicate with students and employers, advertise campus career events, and oversee job and internship postings.
  • Manage departmental administrative files and pertinent content related information.
  • Prepare and provide reports to administration, faculty and Board of Trustees as requested.

WC Internship Program: Ensure educational framework is based on “best practices”

  • Implement and maintain the policies and procedures of the program.
  • Update all materials as needed to reflect industry changes and College policies.
  • Manage the Internship Master Course on Canvas each semester.
  • Develop, coordinate and monitor internship sites. Maintain communication with site supervisors.
  • Support and guide students who have a registered internship each semester.
  • Provide guidance and direction through the internship registration process.
  • Hold one-on-one and/or group advising sessions with registered interns to review career-readiness competency skills, learning goals, educational path, and general well-being.
  • Conduct ongoing reviews of student activity and performance during the internship to identify factors for concern such as missed work, late assignments, etc. Communicate concerns with the faculty sponsor.
  • Provide students with timely and thoughtful communication related to internship reminders, deadlines, questions, or concerns.
  • Collaborate with Career Counselor to guide the general progress of students’ successful completion of their internships.

Job Requirements:

Education: Bachelor’s degree is required. A master’s degree in psychology, education, student services, Business, communication, or related field is preferred. 

Experience: Minimum of 2 years’ experience in the field of career development or related field. Prior administrative experience is required for this position.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of current and emerging needs of college students and employers in the work environment, and how to prepare college graduates for lifelong career success.
  • A positive attitude and ability to adopt the College’s values of integrity, fairness, responsibility and respect.
  • Maintain confidentiality of student information and follow institutional policies regarding confidentiality, including FERPA.
  • Strong computer skills. Ability to effectively use Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook.
  • The ability to work independently and exercise sound judgment.
  • Student focus with high level of professionalism.
