What are the responsibilities and job description for the Youth Director position at Westminster Presbyterian Church?
Purpose
Westminster is seeking a youth director:
- To guide 6 through 12 graders to grow as 21 century disciples of Jesus Christ.
- To be an example of faith. To develop adult-student relationships.
- To plan and lead Wednesday night and Sunday morning programming.
- To be the primary leader for occasional weekend events.
- To plan the program year with the Youth Christian Education Committee.
- To develop and lead youth mission trips.
- To participate as a member of the program team in carrying out the mission of Westminster Presbyterian Church.
- To collaborate with the program team cross covering and supporting one another’s areas of ministry.
- To support the overall mission and ministry of the congregation as needed.
The middle school and high school years are a time of soul searching, including deciding on a belief system. By creating a welcoming environment, providing faith direction and encouraging discussion, we help our youth become disciples and active participants in the kingdom of God.

Serve as Example
As youth leaders we strive to be accepting of youthful ideas and understanding of youthful doubts and hesitations concerning their faith journey. At the same time, we want to set an example by being prayerful, faithful disciples by attending church services regularly, participating in church activities and religious study, exhibiting a good balance between work and family involvement, and having solid knowledge of church teachings.
Lead Youth Activities
It's the youth director's responsibility to develop and lead activities that will attract different youth to the church and hold their interest. This includes planning and leading weekly Wednesday night programming, Sunday school, occasional weekend events, and both local and multiday mission trips.
Maintain Communication Channels
The youth director establishes and maintains communication channels on many levels -- through student channels such as group texts, parent channels such as email and text, and the church newsletter to generate overall interest and keep the congregation informed.
Skills and Education
A college education is preferred. Familiarity with effective youth ministry is required. Experience leading or helping lead youth groups is desired. Organization, flexibility, leadership yet the ability to be a team player, and good communication skills, especially listening skills will be needed to succeed. Familiarity with and comfort within the Presbyterian church is helpful.
Relationships
This position is supervised by the Associate Pastor. Works with program team including the Director of Missions and Connections, Christian Education Director, Worship Music and Arts Director, Pastors, and the Administrative Assistant. Works directly with volunteers leading the youth program. Is the primary staff resource to the Youth Christian Education Committee
Hours
This is a full time, salaried, exempt position. Schedule and hours negotiated with the Associate Pastor.
