JOB DESCRIPTION
TITLE: Environmental Services Director
EXEMPT STATUS: Exempt
REPORTS TO: Executive Director
GENERAL SUMMARY:
The Environmental Services Director is responsible for day-to-day operations of the
Environmental Services department. The Director will do this in a manner that will positively
enhance the environment for the residents as well as staff. The Director is responsible for
training new employees, supervising staff, coordinating cleaning assignments, manages
department budget, monitors and manages invoices, scheduling, and ordering supplies. Meets
with staff routinely to share ideas and problem solve. Promotes customer service attitude to staff
and strongly supports team concept and promotes loyalty to department.
PRINCIPLE DUTIES:
Essential Job Duties:
1. Responsible for daily assignment schedules and special projects for housekeeping and
laundry personnel.
2. Supervises performance of housekeepers and laundry personnel through personal inspection
of apartments, villas, health center rooms, common areas, offices, laundry area and restrooms
daily and as assigned.
3. Monitors departmental compliance with infection control procedures.
4. Orders supplies and inventory.
5. Promotes safe work habits by educating and training staff.
6. Provides on-call support and assistant as needed for the department.
7. Orients new employees in all areas of the cleaning and laundry processes, equipment use/care
and the work environment.
8. Cleans apartments as needed or instructed.
9. Keeps Executive Director informed of situations as they arise.
10. Provides in-services to staff.
11. Prepares paperwork to complete on-going quality assurance.
12. Conducts evaluations and disciplining staff.
13. Assures regulatory guidelines are followed.
14. Assists in coordinating functions with other departments.
15. Assists housekeepers and laundry personnel with duties as needed to complete assignments.
16. Performs all other duties as assigned by Executive Director.
17. Responsible for telephone messages, concerns and scheduling.
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Ability to read, write and follow oral and written instructions.
2. Training/experience in floor care equipment usage/care and routine preventative maintenance
3. Ability to work independently and prioritize work.
4. Ability to train new employees.
5. Ability to manage a team.
6. Strong customer service/communication skills in relating to residents, coworkers and visitors.
7. Assure confidentiality of all resident-related information.
8. Supervisory experience preferred.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORKING CONDITIONS:
Ability to bend, stoop, mop, reach, move furniture and climb a ladder. Ability to push and pull
equipment, carts and furniture. Ability to lift, carry and/or push up to 25 pounds. Ability to
work in an environment that frequently can cause fatigue and stress. Lift and move furniture
(with assistance if needed). May be exposed to communicable diseases and blood/body fluids
that may contain HIV and/or HBV. May be exposed to cleaning chemicals and offensive odors.
