Westmoreland County Community College is looking to fill a full-time Groundskeeper position at the Youngwood campus. This position is responsible to perform work on the college grounds. This is a semi-skilled position requiring heavy manual labor in the maintenance and upkeep of the college’s grounds, buildings, athletic fields and related facilities. This position cuts grass, loads and unloads dirt, gravel, trash and other debris including the collection and disposal of refuse.This individual is also responsible for snow removal from entrances and sidewalks; and for maintenance and minor equipment repair.
Work schedule is Monday - Friday, 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.; Overtime as need
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Monitor College exterior property to ensure buildings, grounds, and athletic fields maintain a professional appearance.
- Evaluate exterior areas of College buildings, including, but not limited to, driveways, roadways, sidewalks, parking lots, and playgrounds for unsafe conditions; and react promptly to remedy such conditions, e.g., snow/ice removal, removal of debris, erosion.
- Perform snow removal duties; remove snow from sidewalks and parking lots, and spreads salt on sidewalks and parking lots during icy conditions. This may require work during off-hours.
- Landscape ground areas, repair damaged ground areas, mow and trim grass, plant and prune trees and shrubs, mulch and maintain flowerbeds, clean drains, and pick up trash.
- Load and unload dirt, gravel, and other debris or plant growth.
- Perform routine and preventative fertilizing/feeding of trees, plants, shrubs, grass, etc. Apply herbicide and pesticide chemicals to grounds, trees, bushes, shrubs, and lawns to control plant diseases and insects.
- Conduct routine inspections, and perform minor repairs and preventative maintenance according to schedule to all groundskeeping equipment, and College vehicles including golf carts when necessary to ensure safe operation.
- Provide groundskeeping services to College sites as required. This may require travel to off-campus locations.
- Perform interior maintenance work when priorities warrant or when grounds maintenance must be canceled due to adverse weather conditions.
- Complete work orders; and return them to the appropriate location within the Facilities and Grounds Department.
NON-ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Assist in maintaining adequate inventory levels of grounds supplies.
- Move office furniture and office equipment as needed.
- Transport or deliver materials for College-sponsored activities.
- Maintain a neat and orderly work area and environment.
- Maintain up-to-date with professional credentials best practices and current disciplines including continued educational requirements through certifications, seminars, training programs, etc.
- Maintain and develop work-related knowledge, skills, and competencies related to the job through professional and cross-training opportunities.
- Attend all required meetings and training.
- Perform additional grade-level support duties as assigned.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE AND/OR TRAINING
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Two (2) years of work experience in horticulture, grounds maintenance, or landscape architecture required.
- Prior work performance must have met or exceeded appropriate work standards.
LICENSES OR CERTIFICATIONS
- Valid driver’s license.
- PA Pesticide License Category 6 and 7 or must obtain within 12 months of the date of hire. Must maintain through recertification.
- Forklift operator certification must obtain within 3 months of the date of hire. Must maintain through recertification.
