Westmoreland County Community College is seeking qualified applicants for a full-time Instructor/Practical Nursing at our Latrobe Education Center. This position is responsible for providing hands-on instruction to practical nursing students in clinical settings. This involves guiding students in applying theoretical knowledge to real-world patient care situations, supervising their clinical activities, and ensuring they adhere to professional standards and ethical guidelines. This position serves as a mentor and provides support to practical nursing students throughout their clinical rotations. They offer guidance, feedback, and encouragement to help students develop clinical skills, critical thinking abilities, and professional behaviors. They participate in evaluating students’ clinical performance through observations, simulations, and assessments. This includes providing constructive feedback on students’ strengths and areas for improvement, as well as assessing their clinical competency according to program standards.
The anticipated/desired start date for this position is August 2025. The minimum annual salary is $58,884. Salary placement will be determined based on education level, applicable experience, and the collective bargaining agreement.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Clinical Instruction: Providing direct instruction and supervision to practical nursing students in clinical settings, ensuring they develop essential clinical skills and competencies.
- Assessment and Evaluation: Evaluating students’ clinical performance through observations, simulations, skills assessments, and other evaluation methods to determine their progress and readiness for licensure.
- Mentorship: Serving as mentors to practical nursing students, offering guidance, support, and encouragement throughout their educational journey.
- Daily Clinical Assignment: Developing the daily clinical assignment to ensure students have access to diverse and appropriate clinical experiences that align with program objectives.
- Professional Development: Engaging in ongoing professional development activities to stay current with evidence-based practices, teaching methodologies, and regulatory requirements relevant to nursing education and clinical practice.
- Collaboration and Communication: Collaborating with other faculty members, clinical staff, healthcare providers, and stakeholders to facilitate effective communication, coordination, and integration of clinical experiences with classroom learning.
- Quality Improvement: Participating in ongoing program evaluation and quality improvement initiatives to enhance the effectiveness and relevance of the nursing program, clinical experiences, and student outcomes.
- Adherence to Policies and Standards: Adhering to institutional policies, accreditation standards, and regulatory requirements governing nursing education, clinical practice, and student supervision.
- Student Advocacy: Advocating for the needs and interests of practical nursing students, promoting a supportive and inclusive learning environment, and addressing any concerns or challenges that may arise during their educational experience.
- Professional Role Modeling: Serving as role models of professional nursing practice, ethics, and values for students to emulate in their clinical practice and future careers.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE AND/OR TRAINING:
- Graduation from an accredited school of professional nursing.
- Current registration as a professional nurse in Pennsylvania.
- Bachelor’s degree in nursing plus with additional preparation for teaching practical nursing.
- Master's degree in nursing preferred.
- A minimum of 4 years of direct patient care in nursing.
- Maintain current CPR/BLS through the American Heart Association.
- Prior college teaching experience required; preferably in a community college setting.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Ability to provide constructive feedback and model professional behaviors.
- Demonstrated expertise and working knowledge of technical principles, theories and concepts in field of specialization.
- Ability to handle sensitive and complex issues consistently, confidentially and professionally.
- Excellent organizational skills, including the ability to prioritize multiple work assignments and manage multiple tasks in a constantly changing work environment while paying attention to detail.
- Ability to independently make decisions.
