Camp starting June 2, 2025; running to (approx.) August 8, 2025
Additional hours required prior to start of camps
Daily Weekday Hours: (M-F) 8:30am to 1:30pm
Contract Position: Museum Art Camp Assistant
Overview
The Westmoreland is seeking a dedicated and energetic Museum Art Camp Assistant to support the Museum Art Camp Teacher in facilitating engaging and educational art programs for children. The Assistant will play a crucial role in creating a positive and inclusive learning environment, assisting with art activities, and ensuring the safety and well-being of camp participants.
Responsibilities
1. Assist in Curriculum Implementation
- Support the Museum Art Camp Teacher in implementing age-appropriate art curriculum.
- Assist with the preparation and organization of art supplies and materials.
2. Supervision and Safety
- Supervise camp participants during art activities, ensuring their safety and well-being.
- Assist in managing camper behavior and implementing safety protocols.
3. Facilitate Art Activities
- Guide and assist campers in various art activities, helping them explore different techniques and mediums.
- Provide encouragement and support to foster creativity and self-expression.
4. Materials Management
- Assist in organizing and maintaining art supplies and materials.
- Help set up and clean up art spaces before and after each session.
5. Art Showcase Preparation
- Assist in organizing and preparing for the art showcase or exhibition at the end of the camp.
- Collaborate with the Museum Art Camp Teacher to create a visually appealing display.
6. Communication and Collaboration
- Communicate effectively with camp participants, providing assistance and guidance as needed.
- Collaborate with other camp assistants and museum staff to ensure smooth operations.
7. Cleanup and Organization
- Ensure that art spaces are cleaned and organized after each session.
- Assist in maintaining a tidy and organized environment throughout the camp.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent; enrollment in or completion of college-level art or education courses is a plus.
- FBI, PA State Police and Child Abuse Clearances required
- Previous experience working with children, preferably in an educational or camp setting.
- Enthusiastic about art and creativity.
- Strong organizational and communication skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
