What are the responsibilities and job description for the Part time Custodian (Substitute) position at Westmorland Union Elementary School District?
Under the direction of the Maintenance and Operations Supervisor.
This position assures that buildings, facilities, grounds and related areas of assigned school or District site are maintained in a clean, orderly and secure condition.
Duties will include:
Perform custodial work at assigned locations.
Assures security of doors, windows and gates.
Raises and lowers flags.
Reports theft and vandalism.
Confers with school administrators and supervisors regarding cleaning schedules and needs.
Sweeps, mops, strips, waxes and seals floors.
Vacuums and shampoos carpets.
Dusts, cleans, scrubs all horizontal and vertical above floor surfaces and furniture and polishes furniture and woodwork.
Empties and cleans waste receptacles.
Cleans drinking fountains and restroom sinks and toilets.
Fills paper and soap dispensers.
Polishes metal work.
Cleans windows, ceiling and other fixtures.
Secures assigned areas turning off lights, locking doors, gates, windows and sets alarms.
Moves, sets up and arranges furniture and equipment for special events and meetings.
Identifies and reports safety and fire hazards.
Diagnosis, replaces, repairs, and refers to maintenance, problems of the nature of drain and other stoppage, furniture, fixture, and touch up maintenance.
Sweeps outside areas and picks up trash.
Maintains adequate stock and stores custodial supplies.
Replaces light bulbs and makes minor repairs and adjustments to furniture and equipment.
Assists others in repairs and general maintenance.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Must have knowledge of modern cleaning methods, materials and equipment used in custodial work; requirements, processes and procedures for maintaining school facilities in a clean, safe and orderly condition; operation and care of buffers, vacuums and other electrical equipment; health and safety regulations.
Must the ability to perform custodial work at an assigned site; prepare and follow cleaning schedules; work cooperatively with others; follow oral and written instructions.
Must poses a High School Diploma or GED and valid California Drivers License.
Bus Drivers Certificate preferred.
Any combination equivalent to sufficient training and experience to demonstrate the knowledge and the abilities listed.
Physical abilities required include driving; heavy and repetitive lifting and moving of heavy objects, climbing ladders; bending, reaching, stooping, walking; tolerance for contact with cleaning agents; hearing, speaking and reading to exchange information; working in a standing, stooping or kneeling position for extended periods of time and dexterity of hands, fingers, arms, legs, and feet to safely operate tools and equipment and to clean; seeing to clean, store and account for custodial supplies and equipment, read directions, operate equipment.
Working conditions will be indoor and outdoor environment.
High school diploma or GED. Valid California driver's license.
