The Weston Public Schools is seeking an Adjustment Counselor for Weston High School. This position will provide clinical services within Weston High School's Bridge Program, a therapeutic special education program for students with social/emotional disabilities.This is a full-time, one-year role, reporting to the Building Principal and the Special Education Department Head (6-12). About the Weston Public SchoolsThe Weston Public Schools enrolls approximately 2,000 students in pre-kindergarten through grade 12. The school district includes a high school for grades 9-12, a middle school for grades 6-8, an upper elementary school for grades 4-5, and two lower elementary schools for pre-kindergarten through grade 3. Since 1967, Weston has participated in METCO (Metropolitan Council for Educational Opportunity) - a voluntary school integration program that places Boston residents in suburban schools. The Weston METCO program enrolls approximately 160 students (K-12).
Key Responsibilities- Embrace the diversity of the Weston Public Schools by fostering an environment of respect and inclusion
- Support Tier 1 social-emotional and mental health needs of students
- Develop and oversee Tier 2 and 3 SEL and mental health programs, including lesson planning and data collection
- Develops and assures effective implementation of a comprehensive transition plan between schools, integrating clinical, case coordination, data collection, and academic supports for students; is primarily responsible for implementation of the clinical supports of the overall plan
- Provides 1:1 and/or small-group clinical intervention to students on a flexible, as-needed basis, employing clinical methods that are most appropriate for meeting the goals in each student’s case management plan
- Engages in consistent two-way communication with families and students to keep them apprised of student progress and to gather feedback and information to support student learning and well-being
- Proactively communicate with educator colleagues and school administrators regarding the progress and status students, maintaining student confidentiality as appropriate
- Maintains a program environment that is emotionally supportive and conducive to learning
- Works with the Principals, School Psychologists, other school leaders, nurses, and external support organizations
- Participate in IST, IEP, and 504 meetings
- Participate in staff and professional development programs
- Other duties as assigned
- Adjustment Counselor license by the MA Department of Elementary and Secondary Education
- LCSW/LICSW or LMHC strongly preferred
- Formal training and experience working with adolescents and families struggling with complex challenges, including mental health challenges, causing extended absences from school
- Excellent case management and communication skills
- Demonstrated skill and experience setting clinical goals and providing direct clinical supports to adolescents in the school setting, including collaborating with collateral/community-based mental health providers
- Excellent communication skills
This is a school-year role (184 days over a full school year), represented by the Weston Education Association, and entitled to the same salary schedule as teachers and other professional staff.
