Position: Summer Student Support Assistant
Locations: Hilltop Primary School & Westonka Activity Center
Job Summary:
Westonka Community Education is seeking a Summer Student Support Assistant to provide supervision, support, and transportation for students participating in summer activities. This role involves safely transporting students to on-campus activities or other designated means, accompanying groups on field trips, and assisting activity staff in facilitating engaging and safe experiences for students.
Key Responsibilities : Adventure Club
- Transport students between designated on-campus activity locations safely and efficiently.
- Assist in supervising students during activities, transitions, and field trips.
- Ensure students follow safety guidelines and behavioral expectations.
- Maintain a positive and engaging environment for all students.
- Assist with attendance tracking and general program logistics.
- Communicate effectively with staff, students, and families as needed.
Key Responsibilities : Recreation
- Provides a safe and supportive learning environment for all participants.
- Maintains control of the athletic environment while identifying individual needs.
- Effectively communicates with participants, parents/guardians, and the general public. Answers questions effectively and appropriately. Follow up with customers as necessary.
- Set-up and take down of needed equipment/fields as required prior to and after practice and games
- Inspects equipment and facilities used on a regular basis to ensure safety and cleanliness and reports discrepancies to the Department.
- Enforce all general policies relative to the program, facility, and equipment.
- Take proper safety precautions.
- Lead participants through active games or skill based drills when coaches are absent
Qualifications:
- Must be at least 18 years old.
- A minimum of 2 years experience working with children or students is required.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
- CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).
- Ability to pass a background check.
- Concussion Training
Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous experience in childcare, education, or summer programs.
- Familiarity with safety procedures for student transportation
Work Schedule:
- Position starts June 9, 2025
- Monday-Friday. Some evenings are required Monday-Thursday
- Some field trips may require adjusted schedules.
- Wage range of $16.00 - $17.50 (depending on education level); also eligible for sick pay.
