Position Overview

We are looking for a client-focused professional who is responsible for managing an underwriting team. Someone who operates efficiently in a high-volume atmosphere can train, lead and mentor a team. Someone who operates with integrity, respect and is proud of their ethics and work product.

Key Responsibilities

• Leadership & Management: Lead and manage a high-performing underwriting team, ensuring efficient operations in a fast-paced environment.
• Training & Mentorship: Develop and mentor underwriters and associates, enhancing their skills and underwriting expertise.
• Workflow Management: Utilize agency management systems to perform tasks efficiently, maintaining high standards of accuracy.
• Relationship Building: Foster positive relationships with agency and carrier contacts to ensure collaboration and success.
• Support Role: Provide backup support to brokers, associate underwriters, and customer service representatives when necessary.
• Technical Expertise: Serve as the technical expert on underwriting processes and communicate effectively with carrier partners.
• Product Knowledge: Maintain a deep understanding of WestPac’s products and how they align with the commercial insurance marketplace.
• Policy Interpretation: Interpret policy forms accurately and support the team in understanding complex insurance concepts.
• Additional Functions: Undertake other responsibilities as directed by executive leadership to support organizational goals.
  
  

Requirements

Qualifications:

• Education: High School Diploma or GED required; bachelor’s degree preferred.
• Experience: 5 years’ management experience; insurance experience preferred however we are willing to teach insurance for the right candidate.
• Communication Skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills, demonstrating professionalism in all interactions.
• Attention to Detail: Detail-oriented, resourceful, and capable of critical thinking.
• Organizational Skills: Highly organized, with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
• Travel: Willingness to travel for outbound marketing initiatives, including evening events.
• Adaptability: Open to changes in processes and procedures, with a positive attitude towards constructive feedback.
• Licensing: Ability to obtain Property & Casualty (P&C) license; additional insurance-related designations are a plus.
