Director of Curriculum, Instruction and Professional Development
Supervises:
Induction/Mentor Coordinator
ELE Program
Reports To: Superintendent of Schools
JOB GOAL: To provide the instructional and curricular leadership that creates, implements, maintains, and enhances excellence, scholarship, creativity, and achievement for all students. May act as the Superintendent in the absence of the Superintendent.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Articulate, coordinate, and oversee the implementation of rigorous and engaging curriculum in Grades PK – 12 that is designed to meet or exceed State and Federal guidelines; create structures for reflection and revision of curricula over time.
2.Provide instructional leadership across all District programs and content areas; ensure
that instructional methods and materials are up-to-date, research-based, and consistent among
and between all grade levels.
3.Oversee the administration of District, State, and Federal testing and assessment programs, including but not limited to the MCAS exams, so that important and critical student performance data can be used to improve instruction and student achievement.
4.Working in collaboration with the Superintendent, establish a vision for professional growth
of all District employees and work collaboratively with staff at all levels to plan and implement a
high quality, ongoing system of professional development and training activities that will
enhance staff knowledge and skills for the benefit of our students.
5.Supervise a robust and exciting teacher recruitment, induction, and retention program that
includes outreach strategies to area colleges and universities, an academy for new teachers, a
year-long mentoring partnership between new and master teachers, and a process for ongoing
access of new teachers to proven best practices across the District.
6.Conduct research, write grants, and oversee the District’s various grant programs that are
designed to further the mission and vision of the Westport Community Schools by providing
resources to enhance and supplement services to our students and their families.
7.Act as the District’s compliance officer with regard to current or future mandates from the
State or Federal government, including curriculum, instruction, and student testing.
8.Provide leadership of the District’s instructional technology initiatives that focus on the
integration of technology as a tool of teaching and learning.
9.Supervise the design, implementation, and evaluation of programs and teaching models for
English Language Learners.
10.Interpret, disseminate, and keep the community well informed on matters of curriculum and
instruction on a continual basis through frequent meetings with District staff, parents, school
support organizations, and the public at large.
11.Attend meetings and run committees as requested by the Superintendent.
12.Serve as the chief administrator of the District in the absence of the Superintendent.
13.Complete other duties as assigned by the Superintendent.
