Guidance Counselor - WMS Grades 5-7 JOB GOALS: - To assist students both academically and socially to be productive members of the school community. - To advise students in the college and career readiness process. - To work collaboratively with students and all stakeholders assisting them in meeting their academic and social/emotional goals. - To inspire students by demonstrating belief in their students’ abilities and by providing the support students need to meet challenging academic demands PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: 1.Using district/school data, designs a measurable, strategic plan for the systemic delivery of a comprehensive school counseling program, including targeted interventions designed to address inequities and close achievement gaps 2.Develops and delivers a standards-based counseling curriculum that is designed in the district approved format and supports all students in developing academic/technical competencies, career/workplace readiness, and the personal/social skills necessary for success in higher education, the workplace, and other post-secondary options. 3.Contributes to a college and career ready culture within the school by providing classroom activities, group counseling, or individual sessions that promote equity and access by supporting all students to prepare for, participate in, and succeed in rigorous academic programs. 4.Contributes to development, coordination and implementation of effective strategies for grade-to-grade, school-to-school and school-to-post-secondary transitions for all students. 5.Assesses the effectiveness of transition planning in positively impacting student achievement 6.Provides all students with timely exposure to a wide range of post-secondary options. 7.Regularly provides feedback on all students’ post-secondary plans. 8.Utilizes various career assessment techniques to assist students in understanding and developing their career abilities and interests. 9.Provides timely assistance to all students in understanding the college and career application and admissions processes, including information about college costs, financial aid, scholarships, and/or internship/apprenticeship processes and opportunities. 10.Seeks out and implements evidence-based counseling theories and techniques to deliver short term counseling interventions to resolve immediate conflicts/problems, intervene in school-specific situations that disrupt learning, and respond to crisis events. 11.Assesses the effectiveness of interventions and responses in positively impacting student achievement. 12.Welcomes and encourages every family to become active participants in their child’s high school experience 13.Uses two way communication with families about student performance and responds promptly and carefully to communication from families. 14.Regularly reflects on his/her practice, individually and with colleagues. 15.Consistently seeks outs and applies ideas for improving practice from supervisors, colleagues, and professional developmental activities to gain expertise. 16.Individually and with colleagues develops strategies that contribute to the learning and productive behavior of all students. 17.Performs reasonable professional tasks or duties as may be requested by the Principal. The position requires the ability to operate a computer keyboard and standard office equipment at efficient speed. LANGUAGE SKILLS: Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language. Ability to read and interpret documents such as rules, policies, instructions, correspondence, and procedures. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively to employees, students, and the general public. MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the major functions of this position. The position requires an individual to work inside a office setting where noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. SALARY: Salary to be determined by the School Committee and the collective bargaining unit. Ten Month year - as per contract.
