Commodities Lab Associate

The Commodities Lab Associate is responsible for managing all green coffee and soluble samples from the point of receipt in the lab through to the point of reporting sample results to internal departments and suppliers.

The primary responsibilities of this position are data entry, sample preparation and evaluation, and laboratory organization. This position reports directly to the Commodities Quality Manager.

Job Duties:

• Manage samples received from internal and external warehouses, including but not limited to, receiving, logging, preparing, and evaluating green coffee and soluble samples.
• Manage sample retention program for all samples.
• Perform data entry for all samples and associated testing results into the database. Communicate releases to cross-functional team.
• Prepare and breakdown tasting sessions.
• Clean, maintain and operate small coffee roaster used in Commodities lab.
• Clean, maintain and operate laboratory equipment used in evaluation of green coffee and soluble samples.
• Participate in taste evaluations for coffee and soluble.
• Provide support on projects, trainings and to other members of the Commodities Department and other departments as needed.
• Digital recordkeeping: maintain master data and specifications, assist with sample results records in Genesis, establishment of user best practices and training materials; utilize ProfilePrint for Commodities' records.
• Maintains organization and cleanliness of the Commodities lab areas.
• Works cross functionally to identify process improvements, manufacturing non-conformance related to raw materials, and to determine root cause and corrective actions.
• Learn to evaluate green coffee and identify defects.
• Train to become an approved cupper.
• Participate in supplier and customer visits as needed.
• Follow all policies and procedures and observed all safety requirements.
• Perform other duties as required.
