POSITION PURPOSE:
Directly responsible to organize, train operators, direct manufacturing and supervisory activities in aspects of the Bleach Plant, ClO2 plant, Wastewater Treatment plant and Woodyard. Major responsibility is for optimizing pulp production, profitability, and quality while assuring safety, environmental compliance and housekeeping are maintained for the 24-7 operation.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Responsibility for meeting production, cost, quality standards and the operation of the 850 tpd Bleach plant, ClO2 plant, Wastewater Treatment Plant and Woodyard. The incumbent has the responsibility to develop long-term operational plans for annual production forecasts. Procedures are developed and supervised that closely monitor operation of the Bleach Plant, ClO2 plant, Wastewater Treatment Plant and Woodyard, this includes Process Safety Management duties for the Bleach Plant and WWTP and DOT/Hazmat chemical unloading. Incumbent needs to maintain appropriate inventories, provide appropriate corrective actions that can be taken to minimize upsets to the plan or take full advantage of changes in production scheduling.
· Participate in day-to-day Bleach Plant operations and assist in execution of outages in the department. Will have responsibility to help develop outage packages and timelines for the Bleach and Wastewater Treatment plants.
· Manage day-to-day wastewater treatment plant and Woodyard operations and optimization.
· Monitoring incoming fiber quality with the assistance of the chip tester and Forest Resources.
· Training, development, and supervision of Fiber Quality Lab Technician (Chip Tester).
· Monitor and manage through Forest Resources the mill’s chip and round wood fiber quality program to ensure the highest sustained fiber yield, fiber quality and supplier optimization. This will be done though an analytical processes to monitor chip quality to ensure clear visibility of fiber quality and optimization efforts (i.e., Excel & Minitab) and generate month fiber quality reports for each incoming supplier stream.
· Maintain routine communications with Fiber Area Team, Mill Management and Regional Forest Resources Manager (and relevant others) as to fiber quality status and updates on specific initiatives and/or quality concerns.
· Participate in weekend duty coverage every 6-7 weeks.
REQUIRED:
· 3 - 5 years experience managing pulp processing equipment such as Brownstock Washer/Screening, Bleach Plant /Chlorine Dioxide experience, or Waste Water Treatment.
· Must have thorough knowledge and understanding of all equipment within the department.
· Demonstrated excellent leadership, organizational, and troubleshooting skills with high ethical standards and energy levels.
· Must have excellent written and verbal abilities.
· Demonstrated skills in Word, Excel and Power Point.
· Technical Bachelor of Science Degree in related field.
· Proficient in Microsoft Office.
· Proficient in Minitab.
· Proficient in PI, Capstone or comparable information
DESIRED:
· 5 years supervisory experience in pulp or paper mill industry.
· Bachelor of Science Degree in Chemical Engineering or Pulp and Paper Technology and advanced management courses.
