Job Summary The Activities Assistant is a key member of the healthcare team responsible for organizing and facilitating recreational and therapeutic activities for residents within our Skilled Nursing Facility (SNF). This position requires a creative and compassionate individual who is dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for residents through engaging and meaningful activities. Key Responsibilities 1. Activity Planning: Collaborate with the Activities Director and other team members to plan a diverse range of recreational and therapeutic activities for residents. Tailor activities to the interests, abilities, and preferences of individual residents. 2. Activity Facilitation: Lead group and one-on-one activities, ensuring residents are actively engaged and encouraged to participate. Provide support and assistance to residents who may need help during activities. 3. Arts and Crafts: Organize and facilitate arts and crafts sessions, promoting creativity and self-expression among residents. Ensure all necessary supplies are available, and maintain a clean and organized activity space. 4. Physical Activities: Plan and lead physical activities such as exercise classes, walking groups, and games to promote residents' physical well-being. Adapt activities to accommodate varying levels of mobility and ability. 5. Entertainment and Events: Coordinate and assist with special events, performances, and entertainment programs for residents. Collaborate with community groups, performers, and volunteers to enhance the variety of activities. 6. Documentation: Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation of residentReport any changes or concerns related to residents' engagement to the Activities Director. 7. Socialization Support: Foster a positive and social atmosphere within the facility by encouraging social interactions among residents. Facilitate group discussions, storytelling sessions, and other socialization activities. 8. Transportation Assistance: Assist in transporting residents to and from activity areas, ensuring their safety and comfort during the process. Coordinate with transportation services as needed.
Preferred Qualifications and Skills High school diploma or equivalent. Previous experience in recreational or therapeutic activities, preferably in a healthcare or SNF setting. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Ability to adapt activities to meet the diverse needs and preferences of residents. Certification or coursework in Activities or Recreation Therapy is preferred. Familiarity with electronic health record systems. Creativity and a passion for enhancing the quality of life for elderly individuals. Physical stamina to lead and participate in various activities involving standing, bending, and lifting.
