POSITION TITLE:ELEMENTARY SCHOOL VICE PRINCIPAL
CLASS DEFINITION:
Positions within this class are characterized by assignment to a specific school or schools as either the chief administrator or assistant administrator. Levels within this class are differentiated by virtue of the number of schools and programs served, the grade levels of the facilities to which the assignment is made, and the level of education and experience required to perform the specifications of the assignment. Positions within this class may answer to the chief administrator of the facility or to a cabinet-level position, depending upon the assignment.
POSITION DEFINITION:
Under the general supervision of the principal to provide assistance to the school principal on all assigned activities of the school site, and to assume complete charge in the absence of the principal; to supervise instruction in assigned subjects; to supervise selected extra-curricular activities; to give individual assistance to students with academic or behavioral problems; and to do related work as required.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:
•Performs for the principal such duties of the principal as the latter may delegate to him.
•Acts for the principal during the principal’s absence from the school and during any incapacity of the principal to serve.
•Aids in student counseling and discipline by assisting teachers as necessary in maintaining discipline in the classroom, and by conferring with parents and teachers concerning problems of student adjustment.
•Maintains effective relationships with representatives of law enforcement and social welfare agencies in connection with serious pupil problems.
•Supervises selected aspects of the extra-curricular program, including athletic and social activities, assemblies, contests, etc.
•Supervises certain school auxiliary services which may include the safety programs, library service, audio-visual supplies, and textbooks.
•Assists in supervising the preparation of such school communications as bulletins, handbooks, annuals and newspapers.
•Assists the principal in evaluating the teaching staff.
•Assists the principal in planning and execution of workshops, faculty meetings and other inservice education programs.
•Represents the principal upon request in interpreting the district educational program to the community and assists the principal in the coordination of school participation in community drives.
EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS:
•Holds a valid and current California administrative credential qualifying the candidate for the position of school vice principal.
•Master’s Degree (desirable).
•Advanced study in the field of curriculum, instructional techniques, learning theory, administration and supervision.
•A minimum of five years of successful classroom teaching experiences.
•Has had successful leadership experiences.
PHYSICAL ABILITIES:
___Visual capability to read handwritten or typed documents, and the display screen of various office equipment and machines
___Able to conduct verbal conversation in English and other designated languages
___Able to hear normal range verbal conversation (approximately 60 decibels)
___Able to sit, stand, stoop, kneel, bend, walk
