Managing Editor – The Current Newsletter
Location: On-site | Full-Time | Salary: $80,000–$100,000 DOE
About Us
If you’re passionate about tech, love a good scam-busting tip, and believe in helping real people navigate the digital world—welcome home.
At Kim Komando, we deliver trusted tech advice to over a million readers through our daily newsletter, The Current, plus our nationally syndicated radio show, podcast, and online platforms. We’re known for breaking down complex tech into plain English, always with a wink, a tip, or a trick you didn’t know you needed. Now, we’re looking for a Managing Editor who can bring heart, hustle, and editorial muscle to our growing brand.
About the Role
This isn’t your typical managing editor gig. You’ll be steering the voice of The Current, our flagship newsletter that’s fast, fun, smart—and a bit addictive. You’ll work directly with Kim, lead a team of writers and editors, and keep your finger firmly on the pulse of what’s new, what’s next, and what really matters to our readers.
We’re looking for someone who’s got serious editorial chops, a love for tech, and a deep understanding of digital publishing. Bonus points if you geek out over gadgets and love making tech accessible to everyone.
What You’ll Do
🧠 Editorial Strategy & Brand Voice
• Own and evolve The Current’s editorial strategy in Kim’s signature voice: clear, clever, and consumer-first.
• Ensure every story feels like Kim is talking directly to the reader.
✍️ Content Production & Management
• Oversee the daily creation of content: top tech headlines, scams to avoid, smart tips, crypto news, and the occasional quirky wrap-up.
• Manage a talented team of writers, editors, and freelancers with grace, grit, and good humor.
🤝 Collaboration & Innovation
• Work cross-functionally with our digital, design, and multimedia teams to bring content to life in new formats (think video, polls, interactive content).
• Partner with Kim on evolving content ideas and tone.
📊 Audience Insights & Optimization
• Use analytics and feedback to refine what’s working—and what’s not.
• Spot emerging trends early and make sure our content is always fresh, relevant, and useful.
📅 Project & Budget Oversight
• Maintain editorial calendars and manage workflow with sharp attention to deadlines.
• Handle budgeting and freelance negotiations with confidence and clarity.
What You Bring
• A bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Communications, Digital Media, or a related field.
• 5 years of digital publishing experience (2 years leading editorial teams).
• A proven background in tech journalism or writing for a tech-savvy audience.
• Impeccable writing, editing, and storytelling skills.
• Experience with CMS platforms, email tools, and data dashboards (Beehiiv, Mailchimp, WordPress, GA, etc.).
• A calm head in a deadline-driven environment—and a sense of humor doesn’t hurt.
Bonus Points If You Have
• Hands-on newsletter experience
• SEO, social media, or digital marketing know-how
• A love for all things tech—and helping others love it too
Why You’ll Love Working Here
• Competitive salary ($80K–$100K DOE)
• Health, dental, and vision insurance
• Generous paid time off
• Work directly with a top media personality and a passionate, fast-moving team
• Be part of shaping the future of consumer tech journalism
