What are the responsibilities and job description for the Maintenance Assistant position at Westview Nursing & Rehabilitation?
West View Nursing and Rehab is currently looking for a maintenance assistant. The primary purpose of the Maintenance Assistant position is to direct, in consultation with the Director of Maintenance, the overall operation of the Maintenance Department in accordance with current applicable federal, state, OSHA, local & facility requirements.
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. High school diploma or equivalent required.
2. 1 Year of Maintenance Experience
3. Experience with hand tools, painting equipment, & general maintenance.
4. Must maintain a valid NYS driver’s license.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
1. May be required to work holidays, weekends, or shifts other than those regularly assigned.
2. Capable of calm, deliberate, & calculated action in response to urgent situations & emergencies.
3. Ability to read & understand pertinent equipment instructions, blueprints & maintenance manuals.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
1. Ability to spend four to six hours daily standing, sitting, walking, climbing, stooping, on ladders and
moving intermittently.
2. Ability to lift 50-80 pounds occasionally & as required for handling supplies & equipment.
3. Must have normal or corrected vision & hearing to effectively monitor/inspect equipment, alarms &
instrumentation.
4. Ability to wear mask or respirator & work in confined large or small spaces/areas.
5. Must be able to cope with mental, emotional & stressful aspects of the position.
6. Must function independently, have personal integrity, flexibility & ability to work effectively with support.

8. Attend & participate in continuing educational programs, meetings & inservices as required.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Responsible for assisting with proper maintenance of equipment to ensure proper operation & quality
care.
2. Performs repair & painting of building as required.
3. Performs basic electrical, mechanical and plumbing skills.
4. Evaluate, assess, and diagnose problems both independently and as a team
5. Assists Maintenance Mechanic with work & repairs as necessary.
6. Professional communication with co-workers, staff, and residents.
7. Assists in the department as assigned.
8. Adheres to all policies/procedures, uniform codes, & regulations of the facility.
9. Available on demand for call ins on nights and weekends.
10. Reports grievances, complaints, problem areas, hazards immediately & assists with maintaining good inter - & intra- department & internal/external customer relations.
