Westview Pediatric Care in Tulsa, OK is looking for one experienced bi-lingual pediatric medical assistant to join our team. Our ideal candidate is attentive, ambitious, and engaged.
Responsibilities
Collects vital signs and patient history, collects specimens and performs basic laboratory tests, administers injections and medications as directed by physician in addition to other clinical tasks. Administrative duties include ordering supplies, updating/maintaining medical records and scheduling appointments.
· Initiate patient contact and prepare patient by obtaining vital signs, lab values, pain levels, patient education needs, nutritional status and related patient history information.
· Assist physician in patient examination, evaluation, and clinical procedures as needed. Administers injections and medications (exclusive of narcotics) as directed by physician.
· Provide follow-up instructions and other patient education as prescribed by the physician. Instruct patient on examination and diagnostic procedures that are to be performed.
· Maintain patient medical records and ensure proper documentation of telephone and other encounters, patient medications, etc. Notify physician of any potential complications identified.
· Clean exam room after each use and prepare room for next patient. Clean and sterilize equipment. Ensure used syringes, blades, and any other contaminated articles are disposed of properly.
· Maintain pharmacy and other clinical supplies at appropriate levels. Identify and appropriately dispose of expired supplies.
· Manage patient telephone calls of a clinical nature, communicating with the physician as appropriate and providing information to the patient as directed by the physician.
· Provide clerical support for the front office, as needed.
Perform other related duties as directed that correspond to the overall function of this position
Qualifications
· 5 years of experience in a pediatric medical office or providing direct patient care required. May substitute graduation from an accredited Medical Assistant program for the experience requirement.
· Current CPR (Heartsaver).
· High school diploma or GED.
· Bi-lingual
Medical office experience.
Under direct supervision of a physician or other medical personnel, performs routine patient care functions such as physician assistance, patient placement, testing, information gathering, nursing duties, chaperoning, supply maintenance, and scheduling. May coordinate schedules of patients in an outpatient clinic and provide clerical assistance toward the smooth operation of the facility.
REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:
1. Physician Assistance. Assists physician or other medical personnel in the examination process as required or necessary. Performs order entry to electronic medical records, i.e., prescription refills, lab orders, radiology orders, etc.
2. Patient Placement. Places patients in exam rooms. Drapes and positions patients for appropriate exams or procedures. Assists in restraining or controlling patients (infants, children, geriatrics, etc.).
3. Test Performance. Performs routine tests on patients such as audiograms, vision, spirometer, EKG, rapid strep, urinalysis, and urine pregnancy tests. Assists with cardiovascular stress tests, fetal nonstress tests, and OB ultrasounds.
4. Information Gathering. Obtains and records vital signs including body temperature, height, weight, and blood pressure. Takes and documents complaints and patient histories including allergies, immunization histories, etc. Maintains patient confidentiality. Receives and returns telephone calls from or to patients and pharmacies. Obtains authorizations and referrals.
5. Nursing. Performs various nursing duties such as suture removal, casting and steristrip applications, administration of injections, venipunctures, breathing treatments, ultrasound therapy, and hydroculator therapy. Assists with both surgical and nonsurgical procedures.
6. Chaperoning. Chaperones examinations and patients.
7. Supply Maintenance. Responsible for stocking exam rooms, taking inventory, ordering supplies, and sterilizing instruments and/or equipment.
8. Scheduling. Makes scheduling arrangements with other healthcare professionals and facilities.
9. As Needed. Performs various duties as needed to successfully fulfill the function of the position.
