JOB DESCRIPTION
Who we are :
Westwood Country Club is a premier family-oriented athletic club located in central Austin that provides a variety of quality services and activities for the recreation and dining needs of members.
Position Summary :
A successful Bartender will be courteous and friendly, knowledgeable of drink preparations, wine service, and proper table / bar service. Must be friendly, outgoing, and possess excellent communication skills; be consistent and organized to provide exceptional customer service. Be able to think and act quickly while retaining a calm, professional demeanor. Must have a good sense of time management, take pride in their appearance, provides excellent drink services, is sensitive to guests’ needs, and displays integrity and honesty in all aspects of the job.
This is a non-exempt hourly position; work schedule will include nights, weekends, and holidays based on scheduled events or club necessity.
Compensation : $19.00 per hour plus tips.
Essential Job Functions :
- including but not limited to
- Assures that all laws applicable to beverage service operations are consistently followed
- Inspect the bar prior to opening to ensure adequate supplies are available; request additional supplies to stock the bar if necessary
- Follow bar set-up and break-down procedures; prepare garnishes, mixes and pre-mixed drinks
- Greet members and guests; mix, prepare and serve drinks to members and guests as they are ordered. Beverages served according to the recipes approved by Food and Beverage superiors
- Design and maintain bar products; check inventory systems for non-alcoholic beverage supplies, mixers, glassware, expendable paper and other supplies
- Clean and sanitize the bar areas, including glassware and equipment
- Develop standard operating procedures for bar set-up, stock accordingly and operate efficiently
- Maintains an adequate supply of liquors, wines, beer, etc., through effective inventory management and help reduce employee theft
- Work with Assistant Club House Managers, Banquet Captains and others to ensure efficient beverage service
- Place large beer / wine orders; liquor orders with multiple vendors; works with Managers to develop the wine list(s)
- Track sales, bills, and complete monthly inventory; ability to use Point of Sale and online reservation systems
- Manage two to three satellite bars during special events and keep bar(s) running successfully
- Develops financial records and reports, as required; work with the Controller to ensure all record keeping procedures are in compliance
- Handle complaints from members, guests and others regarding the beverage department
- Knowledge of the Club’s high standards for service and operating procedures
- Use discretion, work independently and as a team, and take initiative
Additional Responsibilities and Job Requirements :
Preferred Education and / or Experience :
Previous experience serving drinks, bartending, and / or catering in a restaurant or food service environment (preference for fine dining). Basic knowledge of beer, wine and spirits, and be familiar with standard drink recipes. Basic reading, math and computer skills.
Physical Demands :
This position involves (on a regular basis) standing, walking, kneeling / squatting, bending / stooping, pushing / pulling, twisting, reaching, climbing stairs / ladders, and lifting at least 50 pounds.
